Blurb Blitz Tour: Hitched

BLURB:

And she thought the bridesmaids dresses were her biggest problem...

Allison Ralston would rather be anywhere other than this wedding. Even if the wedding is hers. Especially since the wedding is hers.

But Allie's determined to restore her family's happiness, and if tying the knot with longtime family friend, Josh Brewster, is the way to do it, then she'll walk down that aisle, toss that bouquet and drink that champagne. Oh, she'll definitely drink the champagne.

There’s only one thing that could get Gavin Montgomery back to Promise Harbor. And she’s about to say I do to another man. Now he’s back to claim what’s his—even if he has to do it in the middle of her wedding.

Allie is shocked—and okay, a little turned on—when Gavin literally sweeps her off her feet. Safe in his arms, she succumbs to fatigue, stress, and yes, the champagne, only to wake up in his bed. In Alaska.

Now that he’s put four thousand miles between Allie and all her responsibilities, Gavin’s determined to show her that they can make a life together. If he has his way, the next wedding Allie will be planning will be theirs.

Warning: Contains a guy so in love he’s willing to break up the wedding of the season, a bride who just needs to get to, well, anywhere else, and enough hot sex to take them from New England to Alaska and back again.

EXCERPT:

Gavin headed for the rental car, mostly because he had no idea where else to go.  It was right in front of the church, parked crookedly at the curb, the keys still in the ignition.

Just how he’d expect someone to park who was about to break up a wedding and steal the bride.

Break up a wedding.  Steal the bride.

Hell.  What had he just done?

Had he really just carried Allie out of her own wedding?

Gavin felt a trickle of sweat slip down his back—and it wasn’t that hot out here.

Holy shit.

He’d really done it.

And looking down at the woman in his arms, he knew he would do it all over again.

It was moments like this that being a selfish bastard—as his father so eloquently put it—was a good thing.  He wasn’t going to lose any sleep over Josh Brewster and the wedding without a bride.  Maybe Josh really loved Allie.  Maybe his heart was in pieces right now. But Gavin didn’t really care.  This was about him and the fact that he was in love with her.  Josh was on his own.

Yanking the passenger door open, he nudged Allie inside and slammed the door before jogging to the driver’s side.  He slid behind the wheel, shifted into drive and pulled away from the curb, aware of Josh’s angry presence by the church’s side door.  Gavin kept his eyes on the street until they were a block away, then he glanced over at Allie.  She was watching him with those big green eyes that had made him mush for years.

“You okay?” he asked, giving her a little smile.  She would be if she wasn’t now.  He’d make sure of it.

“Strangely enough, I think I might be,” she said.

One corner of her mouth curled up at the corner and Gavin knew he was right to interrupt the wedding.  It wasn’t like declaring that he still loved her and wanted her back could have really waited until after the wedding.

He smiled.  “How do you feel?”

“Like the dream I had where you came home and swept me off my feet finally came true.”

Those words were clear and they punched Gavin in the gut.  “Yeah?” he asked gruffly.

“Yeah.”

He couldn’t believe he’d been within minutes of losing her for good.  He took a deep breath.  He’d come here to tell her how he felt, to beg her not to get married.

The not-getting-married thing seemed taken care of.  For now anyway.  Now for the I-was-stupid-to-let-you-go speech.  “Allie, I…”

“I’m starving,” she interrupted.

O-k-a-y.  “What do you want?”

“A cheeseburger.  With bacon.”

He couldn’t help his smile.  Allie was one of those girls who could eat like crazy and never gain weight.  Then he frowned.  She’d never been this skinny though.  She hadn’t been eating any bacon cheeseburgers lately.

“You don’t look good,” he said simply.

Her eyes widened.  “Well, thanks.”

“Seriously.  Did you sleep last night?”

“Four hours.”  She wrinkled her nose. “Maybe three.”

“And you haven’t eaten?”

She shook her head.  “Couldn’t.”

“But you’ve been drinking.”  It had been clear in the church in the way she’d slightly slurred her words.

“Definitely,” she confirmed.  “Lots.”

“Today too?”

“Champagne.”  She spread her arms wide.  “Happiest day of my life.”

Uh, huh.

That champagne was playing a huge part in her leaving the church with him.

Gavin shoved one hand through his hair, taking a corner too fast.  He knew that her state of mind came, at least in part, from a bottle and knew that he should be torn about that.  But he wasn’t.  He’d had to get her out of that church.  At least long enough to tell her that he was still in love with her.

“How’s your head?” he asked.  Surely she was feeling the effects of the night before.  On the phone it had been clear she was drunk.  But he hadn’t been able to help the thump of his heart when he’d heard her voice—and the words to the song.

“Swimmy,” she answered, wrinkling her nose again. “Is that a word?”

He shook his head with a slight smile in spite of knowing he shouldn’t find this funny.  “I don’t think so.”

“Well, that’s how it feels,” she said.  “Like my words are swimming around and around.  Like they can’t find the way.”

“Okay, we need to sober you up.  Then talk.”

She frowned.  “I’m really hungry.”

A cheeseburger he could do.  That was now the plan—focus on one thing at a time.

“Can we grab my bags out of my car?” she asked. “I’ve got crackers in there.  And Twizzlers.  And a Snickers.  And lip gloss.”  She rubbed a finger over her bottom lip as if being without lip gloss and licorice was the biggest problem in her life.  She grabbed the bottom edge of her bra through her dress and wiggled it.  “I need a different bra, too.  Bernice picked this one out.”

Gavin wasn’t sure what that had to do with anything.  “Al, I can…”

She reached up and pulled her veil from her hair, then looked down at her dress, lifting the skirt with her hands. “I need a brush and some different clothes.”

Finally, he just grinned. With that list, how could he doubt she needed her bags?  And he was on board with her not needing to keep the dress on.  That was a good sign she didn’t intend to go back to her wedding any time soon.  “You bet. Where is it?”

“It’s right by the north door of the church.  The blue Focus.”

Right.  Her car would be at the church.  Great.

Praying for a little divine intervention—that he was pretty sure he didn’t fully deserve—he took a left and headed back for St. Mark’s.

Genre: Contemporary, mystery

Reviewer: Storm Goddess

Review Rating: 4 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Blurb: For Kendall Martin, a remote village in Southwest Alaska seems like a good, safe place to start over. On the run from a dangerously abusive relationship, she leaves everything familiar behind and begins a new life as owner of a small souvenir and sportsman trading post in picturesque Staamat. The locals are friendly, the town welcoming, and she quickly acclimates to the slower, easier pace.

When she meets Denn Nulo, Staamat’s Chief of Police, Kendall begins to believe there truly are good men in the world. Denn is everything she wants: strong, loving, dedicated to family, protective ... and patient. Instant attraction blooms between them, but Kendall is leery of men, and Denn craves a serious relationship that includes marriage and children. Their courtship is a conflicting mix of hesitancy and passion.

As Kendall learns how to trust again and her romance with Denn grows more intense, a local woman who has had her eye on Denn for years releases a torrent of damaging jealousy ... and the nightmare from Kendall’s past discovers where she’s hidden herself.

Review:       How many times can you run and hide from your past? Each and every place has it's own secrets, and the fear of being found only grows deeper and deeper, until it finally comes....

Kendall's life is un an uproar. She's always on the go. She can't seem to get far away from her past. Thinking that a new change is in order, she heads for Alaska. A quaint little town, with very wonderful people that Kendall comes to know and even love. But the problem is that she has to come clean about her history, and hope that it hasn't followed her here, too.

Denn is the police cheif. he's got his own demons to battle. He's the guardian of his much younger sister that is going through  a hard time. She's at that awkward age and with no parents to turn to and a disease to fight, she doesn't make it easy on her brother.

The one person they both come to care for is Kendall. Denn knows she's got secrets. he can't seem to get past that wall. But sure as heck wants to. He's found someone to love, and he'll stop at nothing to keep her.

Unsafe Haven is a story of relationships. Not only a love forming between Denn and Kendall, but Kendall bonds very much with Luna, the younger sister. This could be a place Kendall could find her forever. The book is a bit slow paced at times, but the character growth is stellar! And just the right amount of suspense to keep things very interesting.

If you're a fan of contemporary romance with a touch of suspense, don't miss Unsafe Haven.

Review: Pulse and Prejudice

Title: Pulse and Prejudice

Author: Colette L. Saucier

Genre: Historical, paranormal

Publisher: Secret Cravings Publishing

Reviewer: Jen

Review rating: 2.5 Lightening Bolts

Blurb: When the haughty and wealthy Fitzwilliam Darcy arrives in the rural county of Hertfordshire, he finds he cannot control his attraction to Elizabeth Bennet – a horrifying thought because, as she is too far below his social standing to ignite his heart, he fears she must appeal to the dark impulses he struggles to suppress.

Set against the vivid backdrop of historical Regency England, this adaptation of Pride and Prejudice follows the cursed Mr. Darcy as he strives to overcome both his love and his bloodlust for Miss Elizabeth Bennet.   This compelling variation remains faithful to the original plot and style of the Jane Austen classic but tells Darcy’s story as he descends into the seedier side of London and introduces Elizabeth to a world of passion and the paranormal she never knew existed.

Review:
Pulse and Prejudice is an adaptation of the beloved classic: Pride and Prejudice.  The main difference in this particular story is the fact that the famous Mr. Darcy is a vampire. The book takes place in Regency England like the classic but with a touch of paranormal thrown in it adds a unique flavour to the new tale.  The author adds several quotes throughout the book that I found also gave it a classical vibe to the story. For lovers of the original novel, they will be pleased to find that the author tends to stay true to the tale and keeps the characters reasonably parallel to the old ones; with the exception of Mr. Darcy being a vampire.  Where the story tends to become quite different is towards the end, where there are some very passionate scenes between Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett.  The Epilogue that is included in this edition hints at a sequel, as some questions are raised about certain secondary characters.
The reason for the low rating from me was strictly my own personal opinion and taste in books. I found the story to be boring for my taste and was disappointed that the “intimate” moments between the hero and heroine didn’t come until 93% into the story. My own preference when reading a romance novel; is that I love more “steam” and romantic encounters then what was offered. Being a vampire book, I did expect there would be more passion and romance. For a good part of the story the couple wasn’t even together much of the time. Elizabeth’s personality in the story was a bit contradictory from beginning to end. She started off as quite timid and shy, and then towards the end she was flirting with another man, even though it was upsetting Mr. Darcy. That behaviour just didn’t fit with who she was as a person in the beginning; in my opinion. My rating in no way reflects on the author’s work, as I felt the writing was very well done. For someone who likes this kind of story, it would be a very enjoyable story to read. If you are like me and like some heat to your books and a lot of romance, then I would definitely find another book.

A surprise knock at her door brings Bella face-to-face with her destiny…but can she trust what her heart so desperately wants—especially when Quinn is determined to keep her naked and screaming his name? Mind-blowing sex has been their relationship’s strongest bond, but Bella’s tired of being his secret—and Quinn’s not willing to let her go.

Review: I really didn't know what to think about this book. It really was one person talking about their feelings and going back to their book of memories.

I did like seeing how it is being the third person in a realationship and trying to make due knowing you can only share a little of your life with the person that you love. Why do you have feelings for someone that can never be with you and you have to be their secret? Can a person not just be with you because they love you and who cares what their family thinks?

It did answer somethings but it still left somethings unanswered. I just can't understand something like this. Maybe because of the life I've lived. So this book really didn't speak to me that much. Left me feeling like I was missing something. This is the first time that I have read a book by this author. I doesn't mean that I won't try another one of her books out.

Blurb: The most potent lover she’s ever had…and the morning sickness to prove it!

Lucy Rice knew that a night of uninhibited passion with sex-on-a-stick Reilly Jennings would leave a lasting impression on her body. But never in a million years did she expect to see a plus sign appear on that little white stick.

Pregnant? She can’t believe her eyes. When a second test confirms it, Lucy admits the truth. She’s about to be a one-night-stand mommy. How’s that for luck?

Reilly never wanted the responsibility of fatherhood, much less tie himself to an infuriating, headstrong woman like Lucy. Still, his sense of honor won’t let him abandon his baby like his biological parents abandoned him. Yet it isn’t long before he’s captivated by the coming baby—and the mother carrying it.

Lucy is rocked with all sorts of conflicting feelings for the father of her child. Unfortunately, she’s been down that road before, and it left her a blubbering mess. Not again. No way, no how. Except Reilly seems hell-bent on keeping her close. Maybe it’s the hormones, but Lucy’s beginning to forget why that’s a bad idea…

REVIEW:Reilly's Wildcard is Book Four in Anne Rainey's Blackwater Series. Don't miss out on the previous books in this series. This is one of my favorites.

Book One - Sam's Promise

Book Two - Vance's Rules

Book Three - Breaking Brodix

Lucy Rice is a woman recovering from a bitter divorce. Men are all dogs and untrustworthy in her eyes. They have proven that time and again throughout her life. Even her own father never had the time or love for her she craved. If you can't trust your father or husband then what man can you trust?

Reilly Jennings isn't your average guy. He likes to live by his own rules and a true relationship just doesn't fit into the mold. Until he meets Lucy and his world spins out of control. All he can think about it the sexy little minx that has stolen his heart. Now he is having second thoughts on where he thought his life was going.

Things only get more complicated after an amazing one night stand leaves Lucy pregnant and on the run from Reilly. But Reilly is determined to prove to Lucy he can be everything to her that no other man ever has been before. Nothing is going to stand in his way. Getting the girl of his dreams is the only thing he can think about and giving up on the head strong little minx isn't an option.

This story is about how a chance encounter can become so much more than just a one night stand. Raw with emotion and the sacrifices we are willing to make for love. Sometimes love doesn't come easy but it is worth fighting for and this story brings new meaning to love sneaking up on you when you least expect it.

The characters in this story are real and their emotions spill out on the page. You can't help but feel a connection and grow to love them. Hoping that Reilly can convince Lucy to trust him enough for him to show her what true love really is. Nothing short of amazing!

Anne Raine is a master at writing a family saga! I love reading about each brother and look forward to reading more in this series. Yep! There is still one brother left and I know his story is going to be a wild ride. Not to mention he is Reilly's twin brother. Yes ladies there are two of them.

I would recommend this story to anyone that loves a good romance that scorches the pages and may bring a tear to your eye as well. Kudos to Anne Rainey for letting readers peek into the lives of the Jennings family and fall in loves with their charm. The love and turmoil this family has suffered and come out better than they were through the love of a close family is astounding. Even with tragic childhoods the Jennings men are strong and loving because of their adoptive parents and that just warms the heart. Don't miss out on this series. It is so multidimensional that I can't even begin to tell you everything. You will just have to read it for yourself.

Happy Reading,

Tabitha Blake

VBT Review: High Stakes

High Stakes
by Cheryl Douglas

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BLURB:
Former party girl, Alisa Turner, made a deal with her daddy, Trey. He’ll provide the seed money for her new business venture as long as she promises to stay out of trouble. Too bad her good intentions tumble 30,000 feet when she meets a sexy stranger on a flight to sin city.
Hotel mogul, Liam Bryson, has never believed in love at first sight, but when a sexy little siren twenty years his junior tempts him into a night of high stakes Blackjack, he’s suddenly playing for keeps.
Alisa wakes up in Liam’s bed the next morning, cursing Tequila and the five carat diamond on her left hand. She demands an annulment before her over-protective father finds out she reneged on their agreement, but her new hubby isn’t prepared to let her go without a fight.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Excerpt:

“Have you seen this garbage?” Trey Turner asked, tossing the rolled up newspaper in his daughter’s general direction. “That’s the third time this month I’ve seen your face in some rag, drinkin’ or partyin’ with—”

Alisa held her hand up. “I’m not having this conversation with you again. I’m twenty-five, not five. That means I get to decide what I do and with whom I do it.” She loved and respected her father, but if he had his way, she’d live under his roof and abide by his rules until she was too old to care about having fun.

“Oh yeah?” He smirked. “Who bought you that fancy condo you just had to have, or how about that new A7…” His eyes fell to her shoes. “Gucci?” He whistled under his breath. “Must’ve cost a pretty penny. Might be the last pair you buy for a good long while. I hear waitresses are only makin’ minimum wage plus tips. That’s probably not enough to buy designer shoes or purses.”

“You’re threatening me?” Alisa couldn’t believe what she heard. She and her father had always been close. He may not always agree with the choices she made, but he never threatened to cut her off before.

“Call it what you want.” He shrugged his broad shoulders. “I’ll do whatever I have to do to keep you from self-destructin’ the way I did.”

Alisa knew her father’s history with alcohol. When her parents divorced, before remarrying more than twenty-five years ago, he’d hit the bottle hard and nearly destroyed everything he worked so hard to achieve. But she wasn’t him. She was young and single, trying to enjoy life a little before settling down into the life of domestic bliss so many of her friends seemed to favor. The life she’d almost had, before another woman stole it from her.

Review rating: 3.5 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Review Fast paced and intense, High Stakes is a new series from author Cheryl Douglass. This is from Nashville Nights, the Next Generation.

It starts off with Alisa, trying to find her way after a broken engagement. She's been living the high life, but it's about time to come down to reality and prepare to the next phase in her world. That ventures leads her to Vegas, with a new dreams, and right into the arms of Liam.

Their attraction is instant, and the sparks definitely fly. There are a few things that the two will have to face to be together. First off, the age difference.  Liam is about 20 years older.

While I do believe in love at first sight, I felt the attraction between them at first was forced. They're talking and then the next thing you know, they want each other. It didn't feel natural to me.  I do love the sizzling tension between the pair and the conflict that was set up on the road to their HEA.

I wasn't sure what to think of Alisa at first. She comes across as spoiled and fluffy, meaning not really much to her, but I realized how wrong I was as I kept reading. She had to grow on me, because I wasn't fond her her character at first.

Liam is charming and fun. Of course, he's older an experienced, but I like the way he tends to Alisa. He looks out for her, is careful of her feelings, and tries hard to really understand what he feels and how to act about it. The stakes are definitely high.

I've never read the Nashville Nights series, so this was my first introduction into that world. I enjoyed this story for the most part, other than how fast it seemed their lust and feelings developed for the other.  I'm intrigued and would definitely go back and read the Nashville Nights series.

If you're into hot contemporary romances, try High Stakes.

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Cheryl began her professional career as a nutritionist, but her love of books started at an early age. She studied writing for many years before she decided to pursue her passion as a full-time career. After receiving constructive criticism from several well-known authors, Cheryl finally had the confidence to write her first romance novel.

The first book in the Nashville Nights series, Shameless, was a book that had been dwelling in Cheryl’s subconscious for years. For her, the surprise came when the manuscript began taking on a life of its own. Characters came to life, secondary characters became more prominent, outlines were forgotten, and a single title evolved into an eight book series, and another eight book spin-off series entitled Nashville Nights, Next Generation.

One word would aptly describe Cheryl: workaholic. She lives and breathes her writing, when she’s sleeping, watching TV, driving, reading… it’s always in the periphery of her mind. Her imagination rarely takes a holiday, even when she escapes to a sandy beach with her husband and son, she’s planning, plotting, outlining, and daydreaming.

Cheryl feels blessed to be able to get up every day and do something she loves. The thousands of fans who have embraced the Nashville Nights have made that possible. She writes for the readers who ask for more, she writes to satisfy the muse residing inside of her, but most of all, she writes because she couldn’t imagine doing anything else with her life. It took her thirty-seven years to decide what she wanted to be when she grew up, but now that she knows, she’s convinced she’s found her purpose.

Cheryl will be awarding a $20 Amazon GC to a randomly drawn host. She'll be awarding the following prizes to randomly drawn commenters during the tour:

* two $20 Amazon Gift Cards
* ten trading card/cover flat packs (US/Canada)
