“So tell me, how did you approach your author about your story? I'm well aware of how those like you just pop up out of nowhere
Kyla: I’m pretty sure Maggie was trying to find an excuse for a research trip, actually. Once she started Googling Montana dude ranches, it was all over. She pretends she wanted to bring a little exposure to PTSD as a not-always-combat-related condition, but I think she just fell in love with the whole cowboy thing.
Decker: Well, seriously, have you seen our brochure? And what’s not to love?
“Care to share a juicy detail about yourselves that we may not otherwise know about you? Oh, come. Let's call it a little game of truth.” < Winks>
Kyla (blushing): Rut roh. Slumber-party game.
Decker: Girls really do that at slumber parties? How did I miss that?
Kyla: Hmm … I think the press already pretty much outed any juicy detail I have. They’ve been hounding me for a year now.
Decker: No worries. I’ll find out everything I need to know.
Kyla (whispers): Do you think she’ll notice how we skated around answering that question?
“Is there a talent you wish you had, but currently don't have?>
Kyla: Does not falling off a horse count?
Decker: I could really benefit from learning to cook.
Kyla: What are you saying? You don’t like my cooking?
Decker: No! I mean yes! I mean, oh Lord. This is what it’s going to be like, isn’t it?
“Without getting you in to trouble, either of you....what is your biggest turn off?
Decker: Dishonesty
Kyla: Ha. Ditto. That was an easy one.
“Biggest turn on”?
Kyla: Ooh, that’s kind of private.
Decker: C’mon! I want to hear.
Kyla: Umm, Decker. He’s my biggest turn-on.
Decker: Total cop-out answer.
Kyla: Well, what’s yours?
Decker: Now you left me no choice. I have to say Kyla.
Kyla: Good boy.
“Pet peeve?”
: City girls
“Other than loved ones and the absolutely necessities, what is one thing you can't live without?”
Decker: Coffee
Kyla: Chocolate-chip cookies
“Favorite way to relax and wind down?”
Decker: A trail ride
Kyla: Sitting on the porch of our cabin, in the swing Decker made
“Where is a place you'd love to travel to?”
Kyla: Nowhere anymore. Whisper Creek is perfect.
Decker: But if I offered you that Hawaiian honeymoon?
Kyla: I can be packed in five minutes.
“Biggest fear?”
Decker: Failure
Kyla: Still horses, sorry!
“Do you have ANY idea what your author is working on next?
Kyla: Jess has been hinting that Maggie’s picking her brain lately, so I have a feeling she’s about to get her happily-ever-after
Decker: Ooh, are we in the next one?
Kyla: Yeah, but you can relax. We’re just secondary characters next time around.
Decker: Relax? Are you kidding? With the three of you gals at Whisper Creek again? I’d better go warn Cole.
“What good quality do you think you bring out in one another?”
Decker: Oh, boy. She’s getting all therapist-y. Hmm. I think Kyla taught me to believe in myself again. To accept love.
Kyla: Wow, that was really deep for a cowboy.
Decker: I did ten years in L.A. We’re very in touch with our feelings out there.
Kyla (laughing): Decker makes me laugh, and he’s letting me help make Whisper Creek into an even more magical place than it already is. I needed to feel needed, and he gave me that in spades.
Decker: Plus I’m staggeringly handsome and all.
Kyla: Yes, there’s always that.
"What is your favorite line from your book and why?"
Decker: But I had so many of them!
Kyla: Oh, the modesty!
Decker: Ooh, I know. I think it was the one when I asked you to dance.
Kyla: You mean when you told me how staggeringly handsome and charming you are? And that I was supposed to swoon delicately and say yes?
Decker: That’s the one. I still like that line. And really, that’s when things started to get interesting.
Kyla: Interesting? I almost got slapped!
Decker: That qualifies as interesting! It got better after that, though, right? And, I mean, aren’t we here right now all happily-ever-after-ish and all? So it worked! What was your best line? Hmm?
Kyla: Well, if you’re going to claim that asking me to dance was your best line all book, then I’m going to have to say my best line was when I said yes. Y’know, because of the happily-ever-after it led to and all.
“Well, I know you both are busy, so I don't want to keep you all day, but is there anything you'd like to share?”
Kyla: Did we mention how magical Whisper Creek is?
Decker: Yes, you got that in two questions ago.
Kyla: Did I mention the hot cowboys?
Decker: Yes, that, too.
Kyla: She should totally come visit. I can hook her up with the best cabin!
Decker: And the best horse?
Kyla: Yeah, horse. Definitely horse. Best cowboy, too.

Review: A woman running on empty, taking a little trip courtesy of her best friends....this starts the change of a lifetime. Kyla has about had it. She's just gone through hell thanks a man she thought she could trust, someone she loved, someone who ripped out all of her emotions and left her to fend in a situation that's not a good one. Then she meets Decker, and things just might get a little heated.
The story starts out with plenty of humor, and there's many moments like that throughout. This is a sweet read. Very clean. The chemistry between Kyla and Decker is a slow build, but it was a blast reading about two people who don't really need or want love, end up in it anyway.
There are some scenes that were emotional that engaged me, the characters are pretty well developed, but I didn't fully connect with them at times. The writing is good, I enjoy the author's style but I just felt like something was missing.
I do love a good story that brings two people together after they've been through a lot. Kyla and Decker definitely deserved a happy ending and the drama and laughter along the way made for an enjoyable read. I'll be watching out for other titles by this new author.
