Interview with Kathleen Ann Gallagher

Welcome to my stop on this VBT! Today I'm interviewing the author. I hope you'll leave a comment!

First off, tell me about yourself, and your writing.
I’m a registered nurse, and when I’m not working in the emergency room, I’m at my computer writing. I’ve always been a hopeless romantic, so what better way to spend my time. My husband supports my dreams and never complains if dinner is late. We have three children, and three adorable grandsons. I love the beach, and some of my stories take place in Cape May, New Jersey, the oldest seashore town in America.

How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres?
I’ve been writing since I was a young girl. I have two published books, and two upcoming releases. Echoes at Dawn is a paranormal romance with Decadent Publishing, A Summer’s Journey is a contemporary romance from Rebel Ink Press released May 3, Sun, Sand & Séances is a paranormal romance coming to Decadent Tease on June 19, and Freya’s Spell is an erotic short coming to Secret Cravings Publishing this August.

Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre? I write contemporary, paranormal, and erotic romance.
As you can see I’ve strayed outside, and I love them all.

Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?
I do come up with a plot first. I get a basic idea and then I let my imagination go. I think about it before I sit down to write. My characters and their back story’s are in my head, but I find it easier when I make a timeline to refer to.

What is a typical writing day like for you?
Once I’ve gotten deep into the story, I can’t wait to see where it takes me. I get up early, make my coffee, and immediately get to work. I spend the entire day at my computer. Sometimes I’m still at it when my husband comes home for work. I take breaks in between, but spend hours doing what I love. Since I work outside of the house part-time, I can spend more time on my writing.

Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books? I love reading contemporary romance, paranormal romance, and women’s fiction. There’s so many wonderful authors to choose from. Some of my favorite authors are Nicholas Sparks, Jane Green, Caridad Pinero, Susan Wiggs, and Angela Knight.

What is something you'd like to accomplish in your writing career next year? I’d love to make a bestseller list. It’s wonderful to know your readers enjoy your stories.

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be? I’d love to be able to have the ability to speak to my loved ones who’ve passed away. I guess you’d say I’d like to have psychic abilities.

If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have? I’d like to have a Sea Serpent. I think he’d be great for protection.

Tell us a little about your latest release. My paranormal novella Sun, Sand & Séances is coming to Decadent Tease on June 19.
BLURB

Bobbi Collins is a caring and devoted kindergarten teacher who had her world turned upside down when her fiancé died after a lover’s quarrel. Five years later, she still struggles with acceptance. Her role as an educator fills up her week, but on weekends, Bobbi longs for something more.

When she stumbles across a newspaper ad for a psychic fair in the historic town of Cape May, New Jersey, it seems like the answer. Bobbi is determined to revive her once vibrant spirit.

Kevin Carlton a successful realtor is tired of the dating game. He doesn’t remember buying a raffle ticket, but when his co-worker announces he holds the winning number, he decides to take a chance and attend the all expense paid weekend in Cape May, at the Lady of the Sea's Psychic Fair. Since he was a lazy and unfocused teen, with no direction, he hopes to find a spiritualist who has the ability to contact his late father. Kevin’s deepest regret is being a failure in his dad’s eyes.

Sparks fly when Bobbi and Kevin run into one another at the fair. When strange happenings occur, Bobbi rushes into her ex-boyfriends arms. She never imagined having a weekend of magic, memories, and a chance to rekindle the flame with her lost love.

Will two people who once shared something wonderful, be able to reconnect after dealing with the sudden tragedies in their lives or will it be too late?  Bobbi fears someone or something wants to keep them apart.

Can the historic town of Cape May cast a spell on their hearts and allow the reunited couple to find what they both desire?  How will passion survive amongst the backdrop of a town where spirits never sleep?

What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members) I couldn’t live without my flat iron.

Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?
I’d love to co-author a book with husband. He’s not a writer, but he’s surprised me with some unbelievable romantic moments. Once he painted a spare room, and put all of the things I like in it. He made me close my eyes and he led me upstairs for the big reveal. A man who takes time to make his wife happy is sexy. I think it would be fun to work on something together.

If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them I’d spend the day with Jackie Onassis. It’d be fun learning about a day in the life of the first lady.

What are some of your other hobbies outside of writing? I enjoy reading, cooking, movies, and spending time with my grandsons.

If you were on the staff to have a book adapted to movie, what would you pick? I’d make my novella, Sun, Sand & Séances into a movie. The setting is beautiful with the ornate Victorian homes in Cape May, and the Jersey Shore.

What is a talent you wish you had, but don't? I wish I could sing, but no such luck.

Favorite color? Pink

Weather: Hot or cold? Hot!

Favorite place to read? On the beach!

Favorite meal Seafood and pasta!

Favorite non-alcoholic drink. Coffee!

If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go? I’d love to go to Tuscany, Italy. Between the gorgeous landscapes, the history, artistic legacy, and the food, I might not come back.

I love making new friends. Here’s where you can find me.

Excerpt:
Kevin sat and slid close to her. “Don’t be scared. Old hotels need constant repair. Try not to let all of the ghost stories get to you. It’s all in fun.”
The stories I’ve heard sound real.”
I think the air conditioner made the noise.” He laughed.
Bobbi grabbed the blanket from the edge of the bed and placed it around her shoulders. “Don’t you feel the cold air?”
Did you turn it on when you came into the room?”
No, I thought you did.”
Now, that’s weird. I didn’t touch it.” Kevin slowly put his arm around her shoulder. With their bodies close, neither of them said another word.
The warmth of his touch calmed her nerves, and Bobbi turned to gaze into his eyes. She gasped when Kevin gave her an intense stare, and gently placed his hand on the side of her face. Her desire surfaced and the wall she’d built began to loosen. As Kevin pulled her close and nuzzled her neck, she placed her arms around his broad back. Then, when he placed his lips on hers and searched her mouth with his tongue, she whimpered and surrendered to his passionate embrace.

About the Author:

Although writing is my passion, nursing is my vocation. I work in an emergency room, and it’s been challenging, and rewarding, to be such an integral part of so many other’s daily struggles. I have a wonderful husband who always offers his support, and never complains about my crazy schedule. One of our favorite romantic getaways is Cape May, New Jersey, an old historic beach town where we take a step into the past, and enjoy life’s simple pleasures. Although my children are all grown with busy lives of their own, Chaz, our Shepherd mix, still dutifully stands guard at the house. We are also blessed with three adorable grandsons.

Other interests of mine include cooking, reading, and the theater. However, spending time with my family is most important to me. Even though my life is filled with work, family, etc., my mind continues to ponder the next story or concept for a new novel.
