Interview with Anne Elizabeth

Good day and welcome to Storm Goddess Book Reviews & More. I hope you'll join me in welcoming Anne Elizabeth to the bog today for an interview!

Anne, welcome! I'm so glad to have you here with us today. Thank you for taking the time out to answer my questions!

Tell me about yourself, and your writing.

I am a romance author; the columnist for RT BOOK REVIEWS magazine on the topic of comics, manga, and graphic novels; and the creator of the PULSE OF POWER comic book world. I’m multi-published and am a member of the Author's Guild and Romance Writers of America as well as a regular presenter at the RT BOOK Lovers Convention. My background is a BS in business and a MS in communications from Boston University and over a decade and a half of consulting in the corporate and private business sector. I grew up in Connecticut. My husband is a retired Navy Seal and we are active in the West Coast Navy SEAL community.  My website is www.AnneElizabeth.net

How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres?

I’ve been writing my whole life. I joined RWA in 2002 and was awarded in my first contest (Ready-Set-Go-lden Heart from Washington Peninsula) in 2003. But my foray into publishing didn’t really begin until my first short story was published by Atria/Simon & Schuster in 2006. Thus far I’ve been in six anthologies; written three graphic novels and two short comics; and five years worth of columns for RT BOOK REVIEWS magazines as well as presented over a hundred workshops and lectures on writing and marketing. A SEAL AT HEART is my debut novel, though I have a closet stuffed full of manuscripts I look forward to sharing with readers.

Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre?

I write military romance for Sourcebooks, and paranormal comics and graphic novels for multiple publishers. I’m also doing an adaptation for Anne Rice’s CHRIST THE LORD: ROAD TO CANA novel into graphic novel form.

Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?

I used to write by the seat of my pants, but have such short deadlines I had to learn to plot. Some of the best advice I’ve been GIVEN on plotting has come from Suzanne Brockmann and Virginia Kantra.

What is a typical writing day like for you?

I rise early in the morning and try to walk with my husband and the dog for a time before I become lost in the haze of computer writing and emails. Sometimes, though, I dive right into work.

Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?

I read everything! It would be impossible to list all the authors I adore!

What is something you'd like to accomplish in your writing career next year?

That’s a long list. I have edits for the second SEAL BOOK to finish, and I need to complete the manuscript for BOOK III of the SEAL series. I’m also working on the next graphic novels and comics in my PULSE series as well as sourcing stories for my column on comics, manga, and graphic novels at RT BOOK REVIEWS magazine.

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?

I’d chose telekinesis, so I could be like the heroine in my paranormal comic book series, PULSE OF POWER.

If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?

A griffin. I love the combination of lion and eagle wings. I’d probably name him either Patience or Fortitude after the stone lions in front of the New York Public Library.

Tell us a little about your latest release.

Being a Navy SEAL means everything to Jack Roaker, but a mission gone wrong has left his buddy dead, his memory spotty, and his world turned upside down. His career as a US Navy SEAL is threatened unless Dr. Laurie Smith’s unconventional methods of therapy can help him.

What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members & friends)

My computer. I enjoy getting away from technology now and then, but writing on a computer is so much easier than scripting longhand... Well, I miss it when I’m away from it.

Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?

Yes, I could write with someone else. There is a huge list of people I would work with—Suzanne Brockmann, Cathy Maxwell, Anne Rice, Laurell K Hamilton… I would write on any topic from military to paranormal.

If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them?

Amelia Earhart. I’d ask her what about flying a plane spoke to her spirit and soul.

What are some of your other hobbies outside of writing?

I mountain bike, hike, kayak, and am learning to fly.

If you were on the staff to have a book adapted to movie, what would you pick?

I’d love to see Suzanne Brockmann’s books made into movies. She’s incredible! Also, seeing my own book, A SEAL AT HEART, made into a movie would be mind-blowing.

What is a talent you wish you had, but don't?

I wish I could draw better. I enjoy painting and I’d like my creations to match the vision in my head.

Favorite color? Blue. I am Navy wife through and through.

Weather: Hot or cold? Cold weather, I adore sweaters and boots.

Favorite place to read? Anywhere and everywhere

Favorite meal? Filet Mignon and asparagus

Favorite non-alcoholic drink: Pepsi

If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go?

Space. I’ve always wanted to travel into space, especially if my family and friends could be there, too.

BLURB: Being a SEAL means everything to Petty Officer First Class John Roaker. So when a head injury coupled with a bout of amnesia makes him undeployable, he has to find a way to heal from his wounds and recover his lost memories. Enlisting the help of beautiful psychoanalyst Laurie Smith, he discovers his unlocked memories hold a dangerous secret about his last mission that threatens his life, his country, and the woman he's starting to fall in love with.
