Nana Malone Interviewed!

We're baaaack! Happy Friday! Today's post is an interview with author Nana Malone. I hope you enjoy!

Hi Nana, welcome to Storm Goddess Book Reviews! Glad to have you with us today. Let's go ahead and start with the questions :)

Tell me about yourself, and your writing.

Oh, I’m just your average girl from Ghana who miraculously found herself in San Diego by way of a lot of different places.  Lol.
My love of all things romance and adventure started with a tattered romantic suspense I borrowed from my cousin on a sultry summer afternoon in Ghana at a precocious thirteen.  I've been in love with kick butt heroines ever since.  With my overactive imagination, and channeling my inner Buffy, it was only a matter a time before I started creating my own characters.
Waiting for my chance at a job as a ninja assassin, I, meantime work out my drama, passion and sass with fictional characters every bit as sassy and kick butt as I thinks I am.  Though, until that ninja job comes through, you’ll find me acting out scenes for hubby and puppy while catching up on my favorite reality television shows in sunny San Diego.

How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres? I’ve been writing for the last twelve years and have three published books in the contemporary romance and paranormal romance genres.  I’ve got a few more coming this year too.

Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre? My DH says I’ve got multiple personalities and therefore have to write in more than one genre.

Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants? I used to be a hyper plotter with a nearly hundred page outline, but I realized that took some of the fun out of it, so I’ve moved to a shorter sketch outline then let the characters take me where they may.

What is a typical writing day like for you?
Typical…typical.  Not sure I’ve had one of those days since my Bratlette was born.  Lol. But usually I wake up around 5:15 to sneak in a few minutes of writing, then I start getting ready for work and do the whole family thing.  At work, I grab an hour at lunch and do some more writing and business stuff.  And I grab some hours to write in the evening depending on what we have going on in the house.

Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?
Everything!  Lol. My first love has always been Mystery and thrillers, I was the only ten year old into Agatha Christie.  Right now I’m in love with JR Ward, Maggie Alderson and Misty Evans.  At the same time I love a classic and read Pride and Prejudice at least once a year.

What is something you'd like to accomplish in your writing career next year?
What wouldn’t I want to accomplish? By the end of this year the plan is to have released 7 books.  Right now I’ve gotten two out the door and have two in the hopper with edits.  Three more to write.  For 2013, I’m going to scale back on the insanity and go for 4 books.  Lol.

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?  Ooh, hard one.  I think Telekinesis.  Because you can get a lot done with Telekinesis, including moving yourself around which is sort of like flying.

If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?  Unicorn.  When I was little all I wanted was a unicorn.

Tell us a little about your latest release.
Sexy in Stilettos is a fun, sassy contemporary.  Jaya is fired from the family business and at the same time has to find a date to her sister’s wedding.  Did I mention that sissy is marrying Jaya’s ex-fiance?  Jaya is your classic hyper organized event planner who never does anything spontaneously.

Alec has been called home for a family obligation.  As a carefree playboy, he hates anything that is going to tie him down for longer than an hour ;)

This story is about what happens when Plan A goes out the window.

What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members)
My laptop and my kindle.  I’d feel naked.

Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?

Sure.   Collaborating is always fun.  I find other artists push you to think of things in a different light.  I’d probably select Misty Evans.  I really love her voice in her light paranormals.

If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them?
Only one? You’re killing me.  In that case Nelson Mandela.  I remember being a child both in Ghana and the States watching the stories of Apartheid in SA.  We would sit for Tea in Cape Town Looking out at the water having Bush Tea.  I’d ask him how to persevere.

What are some of your other hobbies outside of writing?
I love photography.  There is something so exhilarating about capturing a moment in time.

If you were on the staff to have a book adapted to movie, what would you pick?
Oh man…Uhm, This is too hard.  I’ll select Maggie Alderson’s Cents and Sensibility.  I just read it and it was a hoot.  Plus I’d love to see all the locale’s she used in the book.

What is a talent you wish you had, but don't?
Man, I wish I could sing.
Favorite color?
Purple

Weather: Hot or cold?
Hot.  If it’s not 85 degrees, I think it’s chilly.

Favorite place to read?
Anywhere I can have half an hour to myself.

Favorite meal
Plantain made any way you can think of J

Favorite non-alcoholic drink.
Mango Lemonade.

If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go?

Hong Kong.  I’ve always wanted to go.

Sexy in Stilettos is a slam-dunk title, and wow to the cover. I think you'll draw a lot of readers in with both, and I know I'm going to be adding it to my summer wish list. Ghana...wow. 11. Thank you Francesca! People underestimate Telekinesis as a power. But they forget with Telekinesis you can fly.
