Review: Farsighted

BLURB:  Alex Kosmitoras's life has never been easy. The only other student who will talk to him is the school bully, his parents are dead broke and insanely overprotective, and to complicate matters even more, he's blind. Just when he thinks he'll never have a shot at a normal life, an enticing new girl comes to their small Midwest town all the way from India. Simmi is smart, nice, and actually wants to be friends with Alex. Plus she smells like an Almond Joy bar. Sophomore year might not be so bad after all.

Unfortunately, Alex is in store for another new arrival--an unexpected and often embarrassing ability to "see" the future. Try as he may, Alex is unable to ignore his visions, especially when they suggest Simmi is in mortal danger. With the help of the mysterious psychic next door and friends who come bearing gifts of their own, Alex embarks on his journey to change the future.

My Thoughts:   It's a challenge when an author writes a character that doesn't have one of their main senses available- especially when that sense is sight. Through sight, the writer can bring the book to life through their character's eyes.  The main character in Farsighted, Alex, is blind.  I feel the author executed this very well and managed to write a wonderful book using the character's other senses. I can't imagine that being easy to pull off.

The story itself is riveting and exciting. It does take a little while for things to really get warmed up and keep a fast pace, but once I got to that point, wow, I just couldn't stop. The characters are fun and exciting, and the plot has plenty of twists and turns.  The author, Emlyn Chand, has created a great book and I'm curious as well as excited to see what comes next.

If you are a fan of YA books, don't miss Farsighted.

  3. Thank you for the lovely review, Nikki. I'm so glad you enjoyed Farsighted! The next book in the series will be told from Simmi's POV, and she has struggles of her own as she confronts her eating disorder. I'm really excited to get it out there; only a couple months to go ;-)

When you have a moment, would you mind cross-posting your review to Amazon and GoodReads? Every bit helps new authors like me get noticed and is greatly appreciated. Thanks a mil!
