Please help me welcome Ces with an interview!
1) Tell me about yourself, and your writing.
I love the ocean and living by the beach. My home at Poole Harbour Dorset has been written into The Light Direction series as one of the main locations. Lucky Emma gets to live in my perfect apartment on Sandbanks beach. Another thing I share with the star of the books is a love of cute pretty jewellery and other lovely gifts. Some wonderful small businesses have created special official merchandise especially for The Light Direction which I have written into the story to provide some novel promotion for lovely business friends I want to recommend.
2) How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres?
I have always loved creative writing and would make my own stories and mini-books as a child. My two younger sons (9 and 11) both love writing stories too! Although my career path has embraced another passion of mine ‘creative design’ and I run www.biz-brand-buzz.co.uk www.prettyinspiring.co.uk and www.supportivebusinessmums.co.uk as my day job, somehow over the past two years I have found some time in the evenings to write ‘hot paranormal romance’ The Light Direction Series. Reach For Your Light is my debut novel and first in the series. I have written the draft manuscript for sequel Discover Your Light too.
3) Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre?
My writing is mainly contemporary romance with some explicit adult theme content. The Light Direction crosses over into paranormal romance although I personally can’t stand that as a genre definition. I’m happiest writing what I know and love!
4) Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?
Although I do have some plot twists in mind as I set out, I tend to just let the story flow naturally as I go along. This being said, there is plenty of content cut from first draft stage as I fine tune the fast paced thrill of story and make sure there is enough excitement and intrigue to keep readers interested and turning those pages! I tend to write a lot from experience or do specific research too so the story has a real gritty believable feel to help everyone relate to the characters.
5) What is a typical writing day like for you?
A typical writing day for me is ‘at night’ haha. As a single mum with 3 sons 15, 11 and 9 as well as my design business to run full time I only have time for indulging in my author escapism at night. Often I will tap away at my Mac Book Pro from 11pm through till about 3am, then up at 6am for the school routine and another long day.
6) Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?
My all time favourite author is award winning romance novelist Mandy Baggot who writes hot heroes and emotional stories. I love all her books especially Security, Strings Attached and Do You Remember. I also love and recommend Promises Promises and Broken Promises by Janice Baker, Want and Need by Stephanie Lawton, Dear Adam by Ava Zavora and Kiss Me In Paris by Karpov Kinrade.
7) What is something you'd like to accomplish in your writing career next year?
I want to complete and release the sequel to Reach For Your Light - ‘Discover Your Light’ next year. Having the series reach a wider audience would be pretty awesome too.
8) If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?
Oh I’ve thought about that quite a lot during the writing of the books. I like the ‘healing’ aspect of character Jaxx in The Light Direction. If I was to have a power though, I think I’d opt for teleporting from one place to another instantaneously. I have so little time to spare and it would avoid wasting time being stuck in traffic jams getting from here to there haha.
9) If you could keep a mythical / paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?
A paranormal creature? I think I’d have to create one... something small so it could be carried around with me, maybe the size of a little mouse. He’d be cute and sparkly and be able to talk and he’d have supernatural powers of his own.
10) Tell us a little about your latest release.
Emma Williams is searching for a new direction. Leaving behind a dead end career and harrowing relationship in London, she makes a fresh start in Bournemouth bonding immediately with flat mate Denzil and enjoying coastal life. Falling in love with delicious Jeremy White she soon discovers that her new life is not as uncomplicated as she’d hoped. The Light Direction will take you on a fast-paced roller coaster of hot sex, mind games and supernatural visions that will leave you hungry for more.
11) What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members)
Oh that’s easy - my phone! I cracked the screen two weeks after getting my new phone and had to send it for repair. Never mind the extortionate cost involved, I missed it so much it’s untrue. I keep in touch with friends all over the world online and by text every day as well as being able to phone my kids when they aren’t at home. I’m a bit obsessed with taking photos of the wonderful place I live in too and post photos of the glorious beach and ocean on facebook daily. Yep I’m lost without my phone.
12) Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?
I think I’m too emotionally attached to my creative ideas to co-author a book. If I were to work on a book with anyone I would LOVE to maybe have some input on a character or plot in a Mandy Baggot novel as I love her friendship and respect her talent so much!
13) If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them?
From history? Well, yesterday is history and it can people alive so I’ll choose my ‘dream team‘ of ‘famous’ people I respect and would love to collaborate with. We’d have a barbecue on the beach, laugh, share stories, enjoy good company and top the night with an evening fireworks display at Sandbanks. What would I ask them? Aside from can I have an autograph and a selfie with them haha, I’d ask them all to collaborate with me on a unique and innovative project to inspire positivity, creativity and being supportive of others in life. Dream Team to include Actor/Director Zachary Quinto, Singer/Musician Ed Sheeran, Author Mandy Baggot and many more!
14) What are some of your other hobbies outside of writing?
I’m a bit of a beach magpie and collect heart shaped shells and pebbles. I love making things from driftwood I collect at Poole Harbour too, I sell some of my creations at www.prettyinspiring.co.uk Although I don’t have a camera as such, my phone has a 13megapixel camera and I’m constantly taking pics of the incredible local coast, some of which I sell as canvas prints at http://the-light-direction.co.uk/the-light-direction-shop/
15) What is something you've always wanted to do, but haven't done yet. Why not?
Haha I want to experience one particular the scene in Reach For Your Light in real life... (you will have to guess which one when you read it)... Why have I not done it yet? Because I’m single and it takes two to enjoy such an experience LOL.
16) If you were on the staff to have a book adapted to movie, what would you pick?
Either SECURITY by Mandy Baggot, Broken Promises by Janice Baker or the very steamy Safe Word by Teresa Mummert!
17) What is a talent you wish you had, but don't?
I wish I could sing. Well, I do sing but if the music doesn’t drown out my voice it sounds baaad. Yeah, singing beautifully or playing an instrument would be pretty cool.
18) Favorite color?
Sapphire (at the moment) I tend to go through phases of being ‘into’ a certain colour... I love nautical theme things right now as well!
19) Weather: Hot or cold?
Oh hot please! (but not too hot)
20) Favorite place to read?
I love reading my kindle whilst sitting in the sun on a quiet beach! In reality I mostly read in the bath or in bed haha.
21) Favorite meal
A romantic meal (yummy grilled chicken) at my favourite restaurant Jazz Cafe Sandbanks (as featured in The Light Direction.)
22) Favorite non-alcoholic drink.
Lemon Water.
23) If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go?
I would go to Poole Harbour (five minutes from where I live) and spend the day on a boat going around the wonderful islands, dropping anchor by beautiful Brownsea for a picnic with an incredible view and then heading around to admire Sandbanks as the clear turquoise waves lap the golden shore. I love where I live!
