Liza O'Connor's 3rd Craziest Blog tour EVER!

Today, Liza O’Connor is sending me characters from Coming to Reason, book 3 of A Long Road to Love.
Nikki: Come on in guys and girls, don’t be shy.
Carrie enters with Dan and Destiny.

Carrie: Thanks for having us. Do you remember my friends Dan Marshal and his daughter Destiny? I work for Dan now, and Destiny and I are solving a whole bunch of problems at work. They also helped me fix up my office over the weekend.

Destiny: Someone had given her the worst, and I mean the rock bottom worst, room available. It’s smaller than the storage closet and it came with a broken desk from prehistoric times, no windows, dreary dust white walls, worn dirty blue carpet, and a mix match of chairs that forgot their job. Not to mention a flickering fluorescent light that made you feel like you’re in a B grade horror movie.

Nikki: Well, it was very nice of you to fix it up for her.
Dan: Believe me, Carrie was the strategic force in the efforts. We were both clueless until she showed us what to do.

Destiny: Carrie is great at teaching stuff. She never makes you feel stupid. She’s the smartest person I’ve ever met. She knows computers better than any of my professors, and this weekend we discovered she knows how to turn an old junker desks into antiques.

Dan: And she’s an amazing business woman.  According to her mentor, Jeff, even on her first day at work, she proved herself a valuable asset by her insights on the customer requirements.

Nikki: Carrie, it appears you have truly blossomed in this new job.

Carrie: I love it. Helping businesses find the people they need is such a rewarding occupation. However… *pauses and looks at Dan* May I tell Nikki about my other job?

Dan stares at Nikki: *you cannot tell anyone*

Nikki: All right. I will not verbally tell anyone.

Carrie: Dan has one or more bad employees who are gaming the commissions and hurting his business. They are using newly hired employees to send candidates who interview really well and get hired, but quit the day after the commissions are paid.

Nikki: But wouldn’t the new candidate get the commission?

Carrie: They get half. The other half goes to the recruiter who brought in the candidate. So when anyone comes to me offering to help me, I’ll record our conversation.

Nikki: Is that legal?

Carrie: It is in New York City.

Nikki: This sounds dangerous.

Dan: I give you my word. I won’t let anything happen to her. But I do need to be getting back now. I’ve a client coming in.

Destiny: And I’ve got a class.

Nikki: Well thank you all for taking the time to visit. This is the first time I’ve had the pleasure of meeting you. You keep Carrie safe. I’ve grown very fond of her.

Dan: We all have. *smiles at Carrie and Destiny* We can drop Destiny off on the way. Did you remember your schoolbooks?

Destiny: Dad…I’m not twelve years old.
Carrie: It was such a pleasure being here. Bye everyone.

*Carrie, Dan & Destiny leave*

Nikki: Well, he seemed very nice. Trent should be worried. I think he has serious competition on the horizon.

Excerpt

Monday morning, Carrie stood outside Dan Marshal’s resource firm wearing her best blue suit.
She’d arrived early, knowing Dan kept to a tight schedule. She smiled as his car pulled to the curb.
Dan let himself out of the limo, something Trent still wouldn’t do, and headed to the office door. His brow furrowed until his gaze settled on her, then his face brightened.
“Carrie! What a pleasant surprise.” He took in her suit and hair tied back in a bow. Leaning down, he kissed both her cheeks in greeting. While Dan didn’t possess Trent’s height, at five-eight, he still towered over her. “Are you by chance wishing to speak to me?”
She rewarded him with smile. “If you have time.”
He glanced at his watch and the furrows in his brow returned. “Fifteen minutes, before a meeting I’ve called. If you need more time, hopefully, you can wait an hour for the meeting to be finished.”
“More than fair since I didn’t make an appointment.”
His head tilted as he studied her. “Which is unlike you.”
“True, but I didn’t know I needed a job until yesterday, when Trent decided the time had come for him to grow up and run his own company.”
Dan led her to the elevator, his hand rested on her back. “Really?” His tone turned happy upon discovering her state of unemployment, but she let it slide.
“Evidently, he made the decision a while back, but didn’t bother to share it with me until yesterday.”
Dan’s smile grew more pronounced, borderline celebratory.
Once they entered the elevator and the doors closed, she wrinkled her nose at him. “Well, I’m glad my unemployment makes you happy. I expected a stern lecture after the last time I asked you to get me an interview.”
His smile disappeared. “Good point. Is this a real job you want, or are you trying to get rid of one of Trent’s groupies?”
She laughed. “Trent doesn’t have groupies. And this is a real job I want. We’ve decided to become a normal couple with daily time off from each other. Otherwise, Trent will continue to rely on me too much.”

    1. Then at least you had time to prepare. A fast coming to reason is painful.

  2. Nikki, thanks for having my characters run about on your fabulous blog. I hope Destiny didn't paint yellow circles on anything.

  3. I applaud you, Liza. Sometimes in our lives we have to finally look at reason and do what is best even if our heart doesn't want to follow the path of reason.

    1. This was my risky book. Hopefully, upon reading chap 1 of Climbing out of Hell, (Book 4) they will forgive me for forcing reason onto them, and see that both Carrie and Trent are better off with other peeps in the end.

    1. In book four Climbing out of Hell, Trent becomes the man we wanted him to be. He just had to lose everything to break away from his past behaviors. I love book four.

    1. You can bet Dan asked her who showed her to that office. He's very protective of her, even from the beginning.
