Blurb/Synopsis:
The woman Rick Smyth desires has shut him out of her life
after being brutally beaten in her own home. But as a new threat arises, Sheila
now turns to him for protection.
This time, not only does he vow to keep her safe, but he’s
determined to win her heart as well.
Excerpt: Rick made his way up her front steps and onto her porch stopping just in front of her. “Good morning,” he drawled. His sexy voice slid over her in a warm caress at the same time his eyes seemed to drink her in.
Her body responded to his intense gaze with a flash of heat that centered at her core. Sheila swallowed. It had been way too long since she’d taken a lover. Maybe Rick was exactly what she needed to get on with her life again. Sex. That’s all it’d be, she assured herself.
He stood in her doorway like a Greek god, all damp and sexy. His shirt clung to his broad shoulders and hard chest, his windblown hair curled into a sexy mop and his long, dark lashes glistened with raindrops that he blinked away as he studied her. His full mouth lifted into a smile and mesmerized her. She wanted nothing more than to lean over and lick the drops of rain off his lips. Her pulse quickened and her breasts tingled. Who was she kidding? Sex with this man would shake the foundation of her world.
As though reading her thoughts, Rick’s eyes darkened and he visibly tensed. “Sheila,” he said with a warning note.
“What?” She nibbled her bottom lip.
He leaned in just as another burst of lightning lit the sky and the rain came down a little harder, but she barely noticed as his mouth skimmed her ear. “You keep looking at me like that, darlin’, and I may have to kiss you. And who knows where that might lead?”
Sheila’s pulse rocketed and her thighs trembled. When he lightly nuzzled her neck she squeezed her legs together as desire had her center pooling with moisture. She gulped.
Rick chuckled. He lifted his head and gazed down at her, making her feel all warm and feminine inside.
“You gonna let me in, honey?”
Sheila blinked. The raindrops, carried by the wind, touched her face and penetrated her dazed mind. “I—I’m not sure I should after a statement like that.” Her voice held a husky quality.
Rick quirked a brow and ran a finger down her cheek then stepped forward, crowding her until she backed into the room. He quietly shut the door behind him and leaned the umbrella against the wall, never taking his eyes off her.
