Spotlight on: Tainted Love

BLURB:

Is it possible for a heart to survive twenty five years of abuse on the most intimate level?

For anyone in a relationship, the words 'we need to talk' can only mean one thing. In the last twenty-two years, the McKenzies have been through it, survived it, learned by it, and grown stronger from it, because life didn't stop for breath when they needed it. Amongst the tears and the tragedies, the hopes and happiness, they've built something amazing: a happy family, a luxury lifestyle and a booming empire. Don't they deserve to have it all?

But for the perfect wife, those four sinister words mean something entirely different. They're a summons into a private world where what happens behind closed doors stays behind closed doors.

Faith has no doubt in Calvin's undying love for her. It's what kept her sane in the darkest hours. If only she could figure out what it is she does wrong... because it's rapidly becoming apparent their tainted love is running out of time.

Tainted Love is an intimate look at a side of marriage many people never see.

EXCERPT:

“Mom, I work with victims of domestic violence. You think I don’t know what happens when he says ‘we need to talk’?”
How did he know? I'd been careful, extra careful, in hiding it from them all. They didn't need to see that side of Cal. Caleb had seen that side of his father, but Cal had cried the first time he hit me — it was an accident. Pure and simple accident, he spun around as I stepped forward. I also remember the sheer horror when he realized the first time he'd left a mark. He was not this man. He was not his father. Look what it had done to him. I'd done everything to protect my children from this.
"Mom?” Caleb looked me fiercely in the eyes and said, “Dad did this to you, didn't he?"
I was helping him sort through his things. It was just a month before he left for college. We put the clothes he didn't want in boxes for the shelter. Cal had been particularly aggressive a couple of days before. I received an "I'm sorry I burned your hand with your curling iron” amethyst ring.
"Don't be ridiculous, Caleb. Your father has never raised his hand to me."
"Yes, he has. Georgia and I saw him!"
"Oh okay, there was that one time." I shook my head. "When you were too young to understand how frightened we both were at the thought of having another baby, after I fell and Dylan died. Yes, Dad has a temper. But I promise you he's never laid a finger on me."
"I'm not going to college." Caleb glowered at me. "You’re still in denial and I'm not leaving you, Cate and Zoe alone with him."
"You're wrong, Caleb." I snatched my hand away from his. "And Cal would be very upset if he heard you talking about him this way. I'm very upset you think your father is capable of these things."
"I’m calling Darryl."
"NO!" I panicked. It was the first time anyone had dared speak your name under Cal's roof. You'd walked out of our family, after everything we'd done for you. Caleb stared at me like I'd just admitted the truth in that two letter word. "Enough of this rubbish, Caleb! Volunteering at that place has warped your mind. You honestly believe a kind, decent man like your father, a man who's never raised his hand to you in your life, is capable of these things? How could you, Caleb?"
"But he shouts at you, Mom. He calls you awful names and makes you cry."
"Yes, of course he does. He doesn't know how to hold on to it like I do. You should hear some of the things I call him when you're not around," I lied. "That's what married couples do. They take out the frustrations of their days on each other and then they spend their nights having really great make-up sex."
"Aw, Mom!" Caleb's face screwed up. It was like he was in physical pain. "So not a flashback I needed."
"Next time you hear your Dad shouting behind the bedroom door Caleb, remember that moment. Remember the really great—"
"NO!" Caleb's hands went over his ears. "It's only ever been done six times and I'd have been happier if Georgia hadn’t — AW MOM!"
I laughed. I laughed so hard my stomach hurt and my lungs burned. And then Cal’s bulky shadow filled up the open door way. Moths gathered inside my stomach. How much had he heard? "Hey, you're home early."
"Schedule was empty this afternoon, so I thought I'd see if Caleb needed a hand." His eyes took in the length of me, up and then down and then up again, before he pushed away from the door. "But he's going to have to wait because we need to talk."
My heart sunk.

Review rating: 4.5 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Review: Don't Forget to Remember Me is as heartbreaking beautiful as I imagined it would be. After that whirlwind cliffhanger ending in the first book, this one jumps in right where we left off. You may want to snag a few tissues as the first moments are intense and full of emotions. Criers will be shedding tears- I don't doubt that one. It's the test of time. Ryan and Julia face their future which has changed so much, but they are ready to face it together. I can't say too much without giving the plot away, but if I thought the first book had such emotion, well they're only heightened even more in the second. I flew through the pages, waiting with baited breath as i hoped these two could get past what just happened, and it's a biggie! But it made me root for them even more.  I loved this story!  I can't wait to see what happens in book three.

This is NOT a series you can read in the middle and understand. Start with The Future of Our past, and then Don't Forget to Remember Me. If you want an emotionally engaging story to read, with a couple that has many obstacles in their way, you've got to try the Remembrance Trilogy

Excerpt:
That smart mouth doesn’t sit well with me,” he licked his lips. His eyes never wavered from mine.
I nibbled on my lower lip, just as a small smile graced the edges of my mouth. Oh yeah, my bravado was about ready to kick some ass. I think I kind of liked being a smart ass.
What are you going to do about it Jack?” I inhaled a breath, taking in his warm, delicious scent. My throat went even drier than before. I practically stared holes into his face as I studied every tiny mark, every single scar on his perfectly flawed skin. He was gorgeous, with a little scar here, a little white patch there. His hotness could have left me breathless for days if I kept up my perusal any longer.
And then I blinked, Christ. I knew exactly what had to be done. I had to kiss him. I had to get this itch scratched and then I had to move on. His eyes darkened, his breath was warm and heavy over my face, and he licked his lips. I blinked. Holy-balls… He wanted to kiss me too.
That ever-present electricity running between us wouldn’t stop. If anything, it only increased our pull. I moved in; his lips touching my lips was all I wanted. I needed to feel again, feel it all with a boy who hated me, but apparently wanted to kiss me as badly.
Dryness on dryness soon changed to warmth on warmth, and when I pressed my mouth fully to his, his hands left my neck, and went to my waist. His fingernails dug into my sides and the son of a bitch pushed me away from him.
So there I was, my head tilted to the side, ready, willing, and able to do whatever the hell this moment led us too, and all he could do was chuckle. Yes. Chuckle. He was the biggest rat bastard.
Ever.

Change of Heart Blitz

B
lurb:

Persevere.

That's how I've gotten through nineteen years of life. It's what I do every single day--no matter how badly the odds are stacked against me.

Persevere, and survive.

Those are my two guiding words. I never knew either of my parents. I have no family and no home. The only person I could ever rely on was myself. In this cruel world, that's about as much as I can ask for.

Love? Hah. Don't talk to me about love. I stopped believing in it the day my first boyfriend ripped out my heart three years ago.

That's why love is the last thing on my mind when I leave a packed college bar with a captivating stranger. Yet everything changes when I'm awakened in the middle of the night by a pounding at the door. Suddenly, an arrangement meant for just one night threatens to become something much deeper.

All expectations are thrown to the wind as I'm tangled in a dangerous world unlike anything I can believe. The man I met has secrets swirling around him like a dark cape. I'm about to become his biggest one...

Together, we stumble toward the elevator. Rich breaks away for a second to hit the button. The light doesn’t come on.

“Damn,” he growls, “it’s busted again.”

I’m one step ahead of him. I’d spotted the stairs when we entered. I grab his hand and pull him after me with no hesitation. I start up the cement stairwell, determined to get to his room as fast as possible.

“Penny, wait.”

I look back, confused. “What?”

A devilish smile plays on his lips. “Only this.” Without warning his hands wrap around my waist, and I’m  being lifted up as easily as if I were a doll. He turns to the side and presses my body against the wall, suspending me between him and the concrete.

His mouth crashes down on mine again. I curl my legs around his torso, locking my ankles together, and kiss him back with the passion reserved for a lover after ten long years apart. I didn’t think it was possible, but I’m getting even more turned on. Rich’s hands move down to grasp the outside of my thighs, and I moan into his kiss as the muscles of my core clench in sinful fashion. I want him so
badly. If we don’t get somewhere private soon, I won’t be wholly opposed to jumping him in public.

I gasp as he steps away, freeing me from the wall. I start to fall, but one of his hands darts down to catch me just beneath the knees.  The other one cradles my shoulders. Before I know it, I’m slung across his   arms like a bride on her wedding night.

“I’ve always wanted to carry a girl up these stairs,” Rich admits.

I laugh, and wrap my arm around his neck. “Oh, you are just the best type of romantic.”

Four flights of stairs later, Rich pushes open the fire door to a dimly-lit hallway. He carries me down the hall and stops in front of an entrance on the right. He sets me down, then fishes around in his jeans for the key. When the door creaks open, he sweeps a hand out in front of him. “Welcome to my humble abode.”

I walk in, curious about his apartment. I tend to side with the camp of people who believe that a person’s living arrangements can reveal a lot about his personality. But, I don’t find much to work with here.

The apartment is sparse and dark. Pale moonlight filters in through the balcony window, shining down on the only piece of furniture present: a queen size mattress lying on the floor of the living room. The red brick walls are totally empty—no girly posters or other things I might expect in a bachelor’s apartment. There are no lamps, no chairs, no couches.

After a moment, I notice a second piece of furniture: a small, old-school CRT TV camped in one corner of the studio apartment.

Rich switches on the light. “So?” he asks, “what do you think?”

I walk past the entrance. There’s one hall leading away from the room. It is filled with brown cardboard boxes. Lots and lots of boxes. “Did you just move in or something?”

Rich laughs behind me. “Yeah, something like that. You want a drink?”

“A drink?” I say. “No, I—”

The words catch in my throat as he grabs my hips and spins me around. I had no idea he’d come so close. He’d moved from the door to me without making a sound. His fingers lock together against my lower back, and he tugs me into him, pressing my belly to his waist. I feel his growing erection right away, and a diabolical excitement builds inside me.

Nothing happens.

For a long moment, Richard just holds me like that, staring into my eyes as I’m left dangling off his arms. His irises are the color of sea mist. I’m hypnotized by the deep intensity I see brewing just beneath the surface. I have no doubt that that type of intensity is mirrored in my eyes.

Then, moving slowly, as if restraining himself, Richard lowers his mouth to cover mine. This time, his kiss is sweet and gentle. Subtle and caring. He explores my upper lip first, then traces the line going to the corner of my mouth. His lips form a perfect mold over mine.

I was wrong before. This is the kiss reserved for a lover you haven’t seen in ten years.

Review:  Just when everything is changing, when life takes best friends in separate directions, both Ryan and Julia fear losing the other. They've had feelings, feelings they've keep buried from the other even though everyone around them could tell that they were in love with the other.  Now, as the choices are among them for their future, a new change occurs- the chance to take of love.

Now, Ryan and Julia not only have new lives to live, as Ryan takes gets into school in Boston, and Julia has an opportunity for an amazing job.  Who knows what the future holds for them as a couple, but what they know is they can't be without the other for too long. The long distance relation takes a toll, but they both know this is what they want. Everything is about finding a way to be together.

Written in the first person point of view, we readers get a glimpse of both Julia and Ryan. I'll tell you, these two are so passionate. I love both characters.  Ryan has a bit of a possessive and jealous streak which can be a bit overbearing, but other than that, he's a sweet, down to earth man that has a heart full of love.

Julia is strong willed and full of life.  I enjoy her passion for her job and what a good friend she is to everyone. The intense love she feels for Ryan jumps right off the pages.

I'll warn you, the end of this book has a cliffhanger! I'm so glad I had the 2nd book to read because I would have screamed! (Really, ask my husband how I get with TV cliffhangers...it's not pretty!)

I love the power, the passion, and the lengths this couple goes through to find their happily ever after, but it doesn't come to them quite yet. The climax of this story is intense, and it only gets crazier from there.  This is a trilogy and I've read books one and two, and can't wait for the third.

Stay tuned tomorrow when I reveal my review for Don't Forget to Remember Me.

Blurb Tour: Sinfully Summer

Sinfully Summer
By: Aimee Duffy

Blurb
SUN, SEA AND SCANDAL
Notorious heiress Alexa Green has certainly been enjoying her most recent girls-holiday in Marbella. Just as we thought, she’s been knocking back the cocktails and showing off her fabulous bikini body on the beach… but rumour has it she’s also been spotted sneaking out of Enrique Castillo’s penthouse in the early hours of this morning – in nothing but her underwear! Our question is, doesn’t this fiercely private billionaire know what he’s letting himself in for?
He’s got the millions… and she knows how to spend them! So lie back on your sun lounger and get comfortable, because this summer fling is going to be a sizzler!

Excerpt

Adrenaline roared through her veins. This was her only chance. Pushing away from the wall, she rounded the lift, desperately seeking an escape. She barely noticed the plush furnishings, soft-looking leather sofas and floor to ceiling window which showcased the most spectacular view she’d ever seen. Instead she focused on the walls surrounding the elevator.
Are you lost?’
The heavily accented voice froze her to the spot. She darted a glance toward the sound. Dark brows furrowed over the richest coloured eyes she’d seen. His gaze swept over the length of her body, then up, lingering on her rear for a beat too long. Her skin tingled under his scrutiny.
Turning her whole body to face him, she slapped a hand on her hip. ‘Had a good enough look?’
His lips quirked in a sexy, lopsided grin. The jitters were back and Alexa swore the temperature in the room shot up ten degrees. Her gaze dropped to his broad shoulders, covered in a thin white t-shirt, then down to a well filled chest. She could see a dark pattern beneath the t-shirt. She longed to find out what kind of tattoo he had. Usually, tats didn’t do it for her. But on that body…
I could ask you the same thing.’
She snapped her attention back to his face. He stepped toward her, his jaw set, his eyes dancing with humour and something darker…something that made her blood heat and her mouth water.
Alexa raised her arm, palm out. ‘Hold it there, Mr. Any closer and I’ll scream.’
He paused by the sofa. Propping his hip against the cream leather, he folded his arms across his chest, causing the muscles to bulge. The moisture drained from her mouth and flooded in her belly.
No one’s here to hear you.’ He cocked a brow. ‘You seem to be forgetting where you are and,’ his gaze dipped down to her breasts causing the nipples to peak against the lacy fabric ‘how underdressed.’
Alexa thought this moment would have topped the blush scale. She planted her other hand on her hip and glared at him, unwilling to show any weakness. ‘I’m just leaving.’
She turned and strode back to the lift, keeping her back straight and trying not to wiggle her hips too much. The predatory sheen in his eyes made her body more jittery than the idea of sprinting around the lower floor in her underwear. She reached out to hit the button, but a large hand circled her wrist before she made it.
Alexa squeaked and darted back a step. He was so close, and his chest was right in her face. She could see the dark outline of the tattoo beneath the thin cotton. The outline of a burning sun, she thought, or something that looked like a sun. Her hands itched to lift the material and see for herself.
I’m up here.’
She snapped her gaze back up to his smirking face and took another step back. His lips kicked up at the corners and his eyes darkened. She swallowed against the urge to step closer, to feel his hard body pressed against hers. But she realised she was in little more than her bra and knickers in a stranger’s home. Unease skittered down her spine.
Alexa squared her shoulders, trying to quash the fear turning her heated blood into cold sludge. ‘I’m leaving now.’
After you explain what you’re doing in my home in your undergarments.’
Undergarments?’ Alexa pressed her lips together to keep a giggle at bay. ‘Seriously?’

About me (snooze—can you tell I hate the me stuff? Lol)

For as long as I can remember, I've had a good book in my hands. In primary school I loved Roald Dahl. In high school my English teacher introduced me to Charles Dickens, Stephen King, Jane Austin, Emily Bronte, and Shakespeare. It was then that I discovered my love for romance and I've wanted to pen my own imaginary heroes and heroines for others to enjoy ever since. Only in the last few years was I lucky enough to meet some fabulous and encouraging people to help me gain the skills to make that dream possible.

I live in sunny Scotland in a small town near the Ochils and work nine to five in a solicitors office. In my free time, you'll find me on Facebook, stalking *cough* following friends on Twitter, and may even catch me shoe shopping.

Review: What happens when opposites come together, fighting a tingling passion neither of them cares to admit?

Meet Alexa and Ric. The pair couldn't be any more different. Caught after a dare, Ric takes Alexa under his wing and requests her help. Now they work side by side, and they must get used to one another. Alexa is much more free spirited, and her tabloid past keeps haunting her, which jeopardizes  Ric's business.

I love the way Ms. Duffy creates characters that normally wouldn't be together, but unforseen circumstances bring them together, such as the case in Sinfully Summer. I love the way Alexa and Ric bring out something in the other, helping them to bond.  The author's books are always light and refreshing, with witty dialogue, memorable characters that are well rounded, have their flaws, and are believable. I always come away feeling good after reading one of Aimee Duffy's stories, and I can always come back for a hot, sweet, and fun read.

I recommend Sinfully Summer if you're looking for a sizzling story may very well draw you in from first page to last. Come on, you know you want to. Get your copy today.

Problem is, telling Sebastian Blackford could destroy the best thing in her life, but the longer she keeps her feelings under wraps, the stronger the need to spill her secret.

Seb figures it’s up to him to get their relationship back on track. He’ll do it too, just as soon as he establishes which track is the right one.

REVIEW:   Can someone please pass me a fan? Some ice maybe? Anyone?? *looks around*

This was one HOT friends to lovers tale. I have read several books by this author and have yet to find one I didn't love! Ms. Dee sure knows how to write a hot story! In More than Friends we have Lucy and Sebastian who have been best buds for many years. When Lucy has the sudden realization that she's fallen in love with Seb, she has to figure out if its better to keep those feelings to herself or let him in on the new development. Obviously, she goes with the latter and shocks the sh*t out f him! What follows is some seriously smoking sex and the two of them trying to figure out which way to take their relationship with all these new developments.

I really liked this story and how it unfolded. There were a few moments where I thought things may not go in a direction to my liking and I wanted to smack a few characters in the head but in the end it all came together and I was happy! :-) The writing was great and for a shorter book the characters were very well developed. It was nice that we knew from the beginning that Lucy and Seb had already known each other for years rather than just meeting and falling in love too soon. I would love to see a follow up to their story and see where they end up!

Her possession of the stone sent her to a world, which had been hidden under the ocean's fire tornado of “'Reversing Falls.”

She found herself fighting for her life in a land that is its own worst compelling character, not knowing who to trust, only the estranged friends that she meets along the way. Oliver, which holds his cover as a trustworthy gnome, and Minsty, a large gentle giant that protects her from the dark creatures, who roam and strip the lands with their ghostly evil presence.

She discovers that her adventure holds the key of eternity. She learns her existence is a true mystery that sings along the pages of her ancestor’s mysterious book.

Review: Mississippi Blues

Title: Mississippi Blues

Author: D'Ann Lindun

Publisher: Crimson Romance

Genre: contemporary, romantic suspense

Reviewer: Storm Goddess

Review Rating: 5 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Blurb: Five years ago Trey Bouche found his best friend—with blood on his hands—standing over a body. Although Trey wanted to believe in his friend’s innocence, he was forced to testify in court, and Jace was sent to prison for life. Trey returns determined to prove he was right. Even if it means losing the woman he still loves.

Summer Hill cannot forgive Trey, or his father, the chief of police, for the wrongs she feels they did to her family. When her brother escapes from Angola, Summer vows to keep her brother safe, no matter the cost. Falling back in love with Trey again isn’t an option.

Now, five years later, the past begins to unravel. Reluctantly thrown together, Summer and Trey follow a twisted path that lead them to the truth—Jace didn’t kill anyone and an entire town’s ugly secret is unveiled. But more importantly, can Trey and Summer rediscover the love they lost?

Review: One little town in Mississippi, two families entwined in the biggest upset five years ago, and now the past is coming back to haunt them. The truth will be uncovered somehow, some way, and hearts are going to be on the line.

It never fails. Every time I pick up a book by Ms. Lindun, I'm up reading late, turning the pages as the suspense, romance, and emotions are well weaved into a story that I get sucked in right from the start.  This story has a different feel to the author's previous works, but one that I loved just as much.  I immediately felt for Summer, Trey, and their families.  Imagine being young and in love, with the whole world ahead of you until tragedy strikes. On top of that, things only escalate further from there when friendships are tested, and truths have to be spoken, no matter who gets hurt. Talk about some intense emotion and angst.  I thought- how on earth are Trey and Summer going to get past this? Well, it's not easy, that's for sure.

We don't just get one love story from the book- no in fact, there is a sub plot involved. Two for one? I'm in!  This only adds to the tension that I felt while rooting for Trey and Summer.

I found myself fully invested in the lives of the people in this little Mississippi town.  The element of suspense keeps growing as the story goes on.  The questions burn in my mind- Is Jace innocent?  Are Trey and Summer going to find their happily ever after? And who is going around silencing people to ensure they never speak of the past again?   I will tell you I was left guessing the entire time. I had no idea! That's what makes an excellent suspense!

For an emotionally driven suspense story, I highly recommend Mississippi Blues. In fact, i recommend any story by D'Ann Lindun.

The Future of the ROUGH RIDERS
Slick from Guilty Pleasures:  Since I just finished reading Redneck Romeo about the last McKay man standing, Dalton, I have to ask who will be the focus of book 16 and is that truly the end?  Because I have to tell you having Ky driving and into girls is going to open up a whole can of worms about when the kid's stories are going to be told.

No fun, I know, but no comment on Rough Riders book 16 yet...I'll clue you all in a bit further down the road. I get a bajillion questions about why I'm ending the Rough Riders series at book 16. And yes, I could probably write a second generation of McKays (Love Love Love my readers but you guys are driving me insane with the "When will you write Boone and Sierra's book?! Crazy rabid fans, I keep threatening that if you keep nagging me it'll be...never -- ha ha, yet I'd never do that because I want to know what happens too!) but I've always considered this series a western saga that DOES have an end. I've been fortunate that I've been allowed to write the books how I want, at the pace I want, with the subject matter I want--all with 100% publisher support. That is rare. Since the books have such a great following, there is that mindset to continue to "cash in" on the popularity of the series and characters. But I won't do that because at what point do the new books just become a rehash of the older books? I'd much rather end the series on a high note, at the height of popularity than wait until the series might be considered "tired" and I start to lose readers. Plus, I have lots of ideas, situations, characters and areas to explore in other fictional worlds. I hope readers come along for the ride.
