Name Before The Masses: The Best Man's Baby

Today, I have an interview with author Victoria James, so I hope you'll help me give her a big welcome to the blog :)

Tell me about yourself, and your writing.
Sure! I’m an Interior Designer/Small business owner…and as of this year a published Romance Writer :) I’m a wife, and mom to two young children, living near Toronto, Ontario. I write contemporary romance for Entangled, Indulgence. THE BEST MAN’S BABY is my third book release this year, and it’s the second book in my RED RIVER SERIES.

How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres?
I’ve been writing for the last few years, and published for less than one year. My current release is my third published book. All contemporary, category romance.

Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre?
I write contemporary romance. I’d love to one day write a historical romance. Reading historical romances were my first love, and one day I’d love to write one.

Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?
Both! I’ve had to learn how to be more of a plotter because I’m required to submit a proposal with a detailed outline and synopsis. But I do tend to stray as the book progresses…

What is a typical writing day like for you?
All over the place! Each day varies when you have small children. This September, my youngest will start preschool for a few hours every morning, so this will be the first time that I will have a solid two hours of kid-free time to write. Any other writing takes place at night.

Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?
Right now I don’t have as much time to read as I’d like. I tend to read many books from my fellow author friends…my first favourite romance author was Judith McNaught.

What is something you'd like to accomplish in your writing career next year?
I’d love to complete the historical romance writing courses I started…the year got away from me and deadlines and family stuff took precedence, but I’d love to be able to go back and look at all the material.

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?
I’d love to be able to see the future.

If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?
Anything that could fly-and be strong enough for passengers on it’s back!

Tell us a little about your latest release.
The Best Man’s Baby is book two in my Red River Series. It’s about two opposite people facing the repercussions of what was supposed to only be a one night stand. Claire is the ultimate good-girl, and Jake…well, he’s the town bad-boy. Their journey to HEA is filled with self-discovery, passion, laughter and heartache. They are both really strong-willed characters, neither of them willing to back down and surrender their beliefs. But they’re also both holding onto some painful memories, and Jake has a secret past that he must finally confront before moving on with Claire.

What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members)
My iPhone.

Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?
Judith McNaught. I’d love to write a historical romance book with her expertise!

If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them?
Any of my ancestors-I’d love to know anything and everything. Much of our family history is a mystery still.

What are some of your other hobbies outside of writing?
Interior decorating, cooking, reading.

If you were on the staff to have a book adapted to movie, what would you pick?
Any of Judith McNaught’s historical books

What is a talent you wish you had, but don't?
Being able to play a musical instrument

Favorite color?
Blue

Weather: Hot or cold?
Cold

Favorite place to read?
In bed

Favorite meal
Homemade Pizza

Favorite non-alcoholic drink.
Coffee!

If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go?
I’d love to travel to Europe. No rush, just take my time exploring. I’d love to visit my husband’s family’s part of Europe as well as my own. I have lots of cousins and family members in Italy, so it would be great to spend some time with them as well.

BLURB:

Florist Claire Holbrook has always played by the rules her entire life, but breaks them to spend one night with sexy lone wolf Jake Manning, a man she's adored since she was a teenager. Six weeks later things get complicated when she discovers they created a bond that will last a lifetime...

Jake has never played by the rules. Getting Minister Holbrook's daughter pregnant wasn't part of any life plan, but he won't run from his responsibilities. He'll step up and be the best man he can, even if he doesn't have a clue where to begin. The more time he spends with Claire, though, the more he wants her, and the harder it is to get close because that would mean sharing the one thing he hasn't with anyone--the truth and his heart.

Excerpt

I never had you pegged as a whiskey drinker,” a deep voice said close to her ear. Her body and mind recognized that voice at the exact same time. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

He’d come back. Jake was the only man who could fill the void that was threatening to consume her tonight. She could feel the heat emanating off his body. He was standing directly behind her, close enough that if she leaned back an inch or so, she would be against Jake Manning’s hard chest. She slowly turned around, heart hammering, senses buzzing, and looked up into his blue eyes. Try to be cool, Claire. Sultry. “And what kind of drink do you think I would have ordered?”

A leisurely smile graced his handsome face, revealing straight white teeth. “A Shirley Temple.”
Her mouth dropped open. The man thought she was a child. “Thanks,” she muttered, determined tonight she would change his opinion of her. “I bet you your Harley you don’t know a thing about me.” She finished off the remains of her whiskey and licked the moisture from her lips. Jake’s gaze went from her mouth to her eyes, and then he took a drink. He placed his empty glass on the counter, his arm brushing against her bare shoulder.

Can I buy you another one?”

It’s an open bar, but I guess old habits die hard. Woman at bar. Buy drink. Score,” she said, tapping her finger against his hard chest.

I’ll have you know it takes a lot more skill than that,” he murmured, his voice low and delicious, each syllable resonating inside her body.

I’ve seen the women you hang out with. I’m sure it doesn’t.”

I wasn’t aware you were keeping tabs on me.”

AUTHOR Bio and Links:

Victoria James always knew she wanted to be a writer and in grade five, she penned her first story, bound it (with staples) and a cardboard cover and did all the illustrations herself. Luckily, this book will never see the light of day again.

In high school she fell in love with historical romance and then contemporary romance. After graduating University with an English Literature degree, Victoria pursued a degree in Interior Design and then opened her own business. After her first child, Victoria knew it was time to fulfill the dream of writing romantic fiction.

Victoria is a hopeless romantic who is living her dream, penning happily-ever-after's for her characters in between managing kids and the family business. Writing on a laptop in the middle of the country in a rambling old Victorian house would be ideal, but she's quite content living in suburbia with her husband, their two young children, and very bad cat.
