Guest Blogger D'Ann Lindun

Please help me welcome guest blogger D'Ann Lindun!  Take it away, D'Ann!

Nowadays, young men walk away from the babies they create without a second thought…or at least it seems that way to me. You certainly hear a lot of talk about baby mamas and baby daddies. I am showing my age, probably, but I don’t find that culture admirable.
So why would I create a hero who doesn’t want to be a father?
It’s not so much that Tanner Burke doesn’t want to be a father as he isn’t prepared. The weight of his responsibilities are already choking him. His father has just left his mother dazed and confused with a ranch to run on her own. Tanner knows she won’t make it without him buckling down and helping out. But more importantly, he feels that a child would have a better life with a couple who are financially stable, rather than struggling teenage parents.

Blurb: Cat O’Brien moved back to Granite, Colorado, ready to face her past. Before she is completely settled in, the daughter Cat was forced to give up for adoption appears. Eve has been thrown out of her adoptive parents’ home because she is seventeen, unwed and pregnant. Cat is ecstatic when Eve asks to live with her.
Tanner Burke brings his younger daughter to Cat’s house for trick-or-treat. Stunned to see Cat again, he is even more shocked by finding his long-lost daughter . . . pregnant. Once again, he thinks adoption is the answer. This instantly puts him and Cat at odds. She will do anything to keep Eve from suffering the same pain she did, while Tanner does not want Eve to give up everything to raise her child.

Excerpt:
Cat’s memory flashed back to that summer. Tanner’s grief had weighed on him like stone. She could still remember the way he cried when he told her his father had left. She held him while he sobbed. When he found some solace in her body, she had been happy to offer what comfort she could. Her belly cramped and she shifted uncomfortably. There was no denying lovemaking with him had been wonderful.
“Do you feel differently now?” Eve pinned him with a cool stare. “That you made a mistake?”
“I wanted what was best for you,” he said. “I didn’t think that was a teenage father with no job skills and no future. A stable family who could give you a wonderful life with lots of love was what I wanted you to have. I was such a mess that it was all I could do to get through one day at a time.”
A tear trickled down her cheek and she swiped at it. Bitterness filled her voice. “Thanks.”
He nodded toward her bulging belly. “Tell me, don’t you want the best for your baby? Don’t you want him or her to have all the love in the world? Not to mention stability? Simple things like food and shelter? What about extras like ballet lessons and a pony?”
Eve blinked furiously and her voice broke. “Love makes up for a lot.”
“I loved you enough to let you go,” Tanner said.

Bio:

Falling in love with romance novels the summer before sixth grade, D’Ann Lindun never thought about writing one until many years later when she took a how-to class at her local college. She was hooked! She began writing and never looked back. Romance appeals to her because there's just something so satisfying about writing a book guaranteed to have a happy ending. D’Ann’s particular favorites usually feature cowboys and the women who love them. This is probably because she draws inspiration from the area where she lives, Western Colorado, her husband of twenty-nine years and their daughter. Composites of their small farm, herd of horses, five Australian shepherds, a Queensland heeler, two ducks and cats of every shape and color often show up in her stories!

  5. Congrats on your latest release. I can't wait to read it. :) In some ways, I agree with your hero. There's a lot to be said for two stable parents and money that paves the way for success. But when there is love... there is something special.

    All the best!!
