VBT: Catherine's Cross

Catherine’s Cross
By: Millie West

Blurb
When Jenks Ellington experiences a sudden, alarming sense of panic about her identical twin sister Gigi, she has to wait until nearly midnight before learning the reason for her unease: Gigi has drowned while diving for artifacts in a Low Country river near Beaufort, South Carolina. Although Beaufort County detective Seth Mason is suspicious of Gigi’s diving partner, there is no evidence of foul play. But, when Gigi’s Port Royal home is broken into and ransacked, Jenks discovers two clues—one of which leads her to the home of a local Gullah medium.
In a painstaking search for answers, Jenks delves more deeply into her twin’s life. Along the way, her bond with Detective Mason reaches unexpected depths. And what secrets could medium Meta Jane be holding? Was Gigi’s death really an accident?

Review Rating: 4 LIGHTNING BOLTS

Review: From the first page, the book held my attention. I love when an author creates that kind of atmosphere from the get go. Jenks starts having an odd feeling, which only gets worse as time goes on until she gets word that things aren't looking too good. What an emotional first chapter!

There's a lot of mystery and emotion in the story. There are just a few times the writing style jarred me, but not too often. My mind raced with this book, and I needed to know more! The characters are pretty well developed and other than a few spots, the flow is strong and solid.  Well weaved mystery and romance with a touch of Southern charm. I'll be looking for more books from this author in the future! Jenks is a great leading character and I could feel a lof of the things that she did throughout. I enjoy a story that has a focus on a twin bond and when something happens to one of them it really heightens that tension. Well done, Ms. West!
