Daryl Devore Interviewed!

Daryl Devore is my Interview victim today! Please help me welcome Daryl to the blog!

Tell me about yourself, and your writing.

I'm Daryl Devore and I write erotic romance. I have four published books,
A Kept Woman – erotic contemporary
Sexy Red Hood – erotic fairy tale
Black Dorn – erotic medieval
Capri's Fate – erotic contemporary fantasy.
If I can stick erotic in front of it, I'll probably try and write it.

Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre?

Multiple sub genres within one genre. If I tried to stray and write say a sci-fi – I'd have the aliens and humans mixing and matching parts in no time.

Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?

I'm a PLanster – plotter and panster. I have no idea where a story is going when I start it. Once I get in a chapter or two I get an idea and plot the whole thing. Then I sit down to write it and my characters take over and we go off onto a totally different route.

What is a typical writing day like for you?

No such thing. I'm not the best example of a dedicated writer. To put it simply –
Daryl's Day as a writer
1. I get up
2. I do stuff
3. I go to bed.

Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?

I love mysteries. Agatha Christie is my writing hero. As for current authors – Kathy Reichs. Love her books and the TV show based on her books - Bones - is my favourite.

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?

I'd like to be able to communicate with the ghost who lives in our house. I think she is from the 1800s. If I am guessing right, she'd be Captain Hanes' wife. He was given a land grant for being a British loyalist and had the house built, which I now live in.

If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?

Gotta be a dragon. Although I think my cats would have something to say about that!

Tell us a little about your latest release.

I think the first line from my blurb says it best –
What's a woman to do when a voice follows her home and makes mad, passionate love to her?

What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members)

My laptop. Even if I wasn't writing to be published, I'd still be writing. And besides it has all my games on it! Solitaire – Mahjong – Taptiles etc.

Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?

Yes and no. *snort* Typical Canadian response. It would be fascinating to work with another author, but with all the awesome writers we know from our super fantastic critique group – who would I choose? And then I'd probably end up sitting there watching in awe as the other does all the writing.

             Favorite color? Purple

Weather: Hot or cold? Hot – and I so don't know why I am living in Canada. As I write this it is 8C (46 F) and it is May 24th!!

Favorite non-alcoholic drink.

Diet Coke. If you asked my favourite alcoholic drink –it'd be Diet Coke. I never developed a taste for alcohol. I rank it up there with liver and onions and Brussel sprouts. So I'm always the DD – designated driver. Yet strangely enough my characters do a lot of drinking!

If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go?

Space (the final frontier -  hehehe – yea I'm a bit of a Trekkie)

BLURB CAPRIS FATE: Capricious Gray is dragged to a sex toy convention by her best friend. A mysterious voice suggests what she should purchase, then follows her home. After a night of hot sex, Capri is torn between the lust of fantasy or the lonely truth of reality

Can fantasy become a reality for these two lovers?

EXCERPT: Excerpt – Thall's in a bit of trouble and he's trying to apologize

Thall stared at the light brown, metal barrier that stood between him and Capri. Would she open the door and let him in? Give him a chance to explain? Eternity would be a very long time, if he had to spend it without the one he loved.
He raised his fist to the door, but didn't knock. Knock again? Wait patiently? He chuckled. Ah, now I understand why humans say, "Let the Fates decide." Some decisions are just too—
The door swung open. Thall's heart jumped as his gaze met Capri's. "Hi. I wasn't sure you'd open the door. Xyno, my sister, said human women like flowers." He held out the rose. "So I brought you some."
Capri glanced at the single rose then lifted her gaze back up his and opened her mouth to speak. Thall held up his hand to stop her, placed the rose stem between his lips and turned to his right. He bent down and picked up two large bouquets. One vase was filled with tulips in a spectrum of pinks and red. The other was a dazzling display of lemon yellow and flaming orange chrysanthemums. He gripped the rose with his teeth. "Can I put these inside?"
She stepped back and allowed Thall to enter. He placed the vases on the floor just inside the condo, turned and stopped Capri from closing the door. Stepping outside he turned with another two equally spectacular flower arrangements, but this time the flowers ranged from peacock blue to deep purple. By the sixth, and final time, he delivered bouquets, Capri's apartment had the aroma of a spring meadow and was an enticing explosion of color.
He stood before Capri, placed his hand behind her head and as he gazed into her eyes, he pressed her face closer to his. The tension made his gut clench. She wasn't going to concede and let him have his way. But there was also willingness, masked with hesitancy. Relief calmed Thall's nerves, now that he was reassured there was no anger or hatred.
He tilted his head. As his lips met hers, he used the tip of his tongue to push the rose stem between her lips. He lingered a moment, reveling in the sensations and urges swirling through him. She stepped back and took the rose in her hand.
"I'll just get my…" Kat scurried around the coffee table, grabbed her purse, smiled at Capri and exited the apartment.
"I don't know what to say." Capri stared at the rose as she twirled it in her hand.
"That makes two of us. I don't have any snappy comeback or a preplanned speech. I just have a huge hole right here." He thumped his hand on his chest. "And somehow it causes me a lot of pain. And the cure is you."

Capri's Fate sounds like a fun romance to read - love the premise!

    1. Whilst my cats might complain about a dragon, I'd bet my husband would complain about a centaur.
