Blurb: She would break all the rules for his touch.

Annalise always followed all the rules, but that is at an end. She is haunted by a terrible memory that makes it easier and easier to do the things no proper lady would ever do…particularly where Elliot Morton is concerned.

Elliot Morton is a man withholding many secrets, particularly from Lady Annalise. He never wanted another woman more than he wants his own sweet Anna, but dangerous foes threaten to rip their world apart. He will do anything to keep her safe, even from himself.

Review: I have decided to give this book a five stars as it sucked me in from start to finish! The only complaint that I have is the first 30% of the book, there were some repetitive statements being made. This problem did seem to mostly clear up after the 30% mark and then I was fully engaged in this wonderful book. I found the characters to be very likable, although at times Anna (Annalise) could be very hard on herself and her self esteem was very low.

This story begins with a very riveting prologue from the past and shows how Anna was put into a situation to take a life to save the people she loves. I was hooked and invested in the story from this point on and I kept thinking, " What a way to start a book!" We then are taken to Dec. 27/1814; which is present time, and we are brought to Cheney Hall where Lady Annalise lives with her brother; The Duke of Cheney (James), and his wife; Daphne. Anna has been suffering from nightmares since the time of her having to take a life. She also is a loner and a lover of science who likes to experiment with her findings. In one incident she blows up her brother's stables, and pushes him to exasperation, and he sends her to London for a season. This is where we meet Elliot Morton who has been asked to drive Anna to London. Elliot is Daphne's cousin and he was also present during Anna's traumatic incident. Elliot is enamoured with Anna, and she puts up a great fight against their attraction. In the end, the heat is too much for the both of them and a blazing affair begins. The interactions with these two are hot and spicy but also endearing at times as they also become great friends. I fell in love with Elliot and especially how he loved "His Anna."  He really did love her and it was enjoyable to see his soft side come out just for her. Elliot has many secrets and he really is a tortured soul; but I liked the fact that he doesn't let his awful past get in the way of his feelings for Anna.

This is just a feel good book with many love scenes that kept me glued to my seat and fanning my face! Not only were there hot scenes though, there were also many situations that had me laughing out loud as well. A pillow fight with Anna and her friend; Chrysanthe comes to mind! I am personally hoping that there will be a story about Chrysanthe next, as I thought she was a neat character and I would love to learn more about her. I highly recommend this story to historical romance lovers everywhere. This is a story you don't want to miss and I guarantee that you will fall in love with these characters as much as I have. I will be sitting here with my fingers crossed that Rebecca Minto has more stories coming as she has gained a new fan in me! An excellent and highly entertaining read that also has enough heat to start a fire!
