Interview with Tenaya Jayne

Storm Goddess Book Reviews is pleased to bring to you today, and interview with Tenaya Jayne.

Tenaya, thank you for stopping by today! Glad to have you with us. Thank you for answering my inquiring questions.

Tell me about yourself, and your writing.

I've always had an overactive imagination. I need numerous creative outlets to assuage the excess bursting to get out of me. And I'm always on the hunt for weird entertainment. I'm a mom and I love that job more than anything else but having little ones keeps a lid on my darker side, so it spills out in my fiction. Writing is my art. Words are my medium. I can't not write.

How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres?

I've been writing since childhood but I've only been serious about it since 2004. I currently have two published titles. BLUE ASPEN, which is hard to pin down in a genre, but if forced I'd say was YA paranormal. And THE SLAYER'S WIFE, a paranormal romance novella.

Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre?

I write YA, Paranormal romance, Horror, Urban Fantasy, and Fantasy.

Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?

I'm definitely a plotter. I never begin a novel if I don't know how it ends first. I write poetry by the seat of my pants.

What is a typical writing day like for you?

I never seem to have typical days with two kids at home, one with Autism and the other a toddler. I keep my computer on and write when I get the chance. It can be frustrating but I know my kids won't be little forever and I intend to enjoy them.

Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?

I could write you a REALLY long list. For the sake of time and space, I'll just give you two. Meredith Ann Peirce. Her Darkangel trilogy were the books that taught me to love reading when I was eleven. And Nora Roberts' Tears of the Moon. I've read that book probably five times. The end always makes me cry.

What is something you'd like to accomplish in your writing career next year?

I'd like to hit a bestseller list.

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?

Matching socks telekinetically.

If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?

Probably a dragon. They're dead useful. House trained, of course.

Tell us a little about your latest release.

FORBIDDEN FOREST is the first book in my new series, The Legends of Regia. Urban fantasy/ romance will be available next month. Here's a short synopsis.
Born in shame. Cast from society. Shape Shifter/Elf hybrid, Forest must fight for any respect she can get. Targeted in her youth by a vampire noble who placed an illegal slave mark on her, she is forced obey him, no matter what.
Slipping the grip of her master and abandoning the prejudice of Regia, her native world, Forest takes a job on Earth, guarding the portal, using her skills as a warrior to enforce Regia's laws. Now, called home for a black ops mission, Forest must put aside her own prejudice to transport the vampire prince, Syrus, through enemy territory in a time of war.
Prince Syrus, mage and master of the Blood Kata, wants Forest more than he's ever wanted anything. In spite of their mutual mistrust, their attraction cannot be denied. Through the danger of their mission, and the secrets they both keep, it doesn't matter what they feel. Forest is forbidden.
What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members)

 My MP3 player.

Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?

I tried to co-author a book with my best friend a few years ago and we had to stop to save our friendship! I don't think I'd ever try it again.

If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them?

I'd like to spend a day with Nikola Tesla. I don't think I could actually talk to him but I'd love to sit in the corner of his lab and just watch.

What are some of your other hobbies outside of writing?

Photomanipulation, interior decorating, DIY, running, swimming, dancing and acting.

If you were on the staff to have a book adapted to movie, what would you pick?

Shoot, I think Blue Aspen would make a kick ass movie, but most authors feel that way about their work. So if I was picking someone else's book, I'd say Scott Westerfeld's Uglies series.

What is a talent you wish you had, but don't?

Singing. My lack of talent however doesn't stop me from belting it out while driving.

Favorite color?

 Green

Weather: Hot or cold?

Cold. I love the snow!

 Favorite place to read?

Sitting on the stairs. It's not really that comfortable but I always end up there.

Favorite meal

 My mom's lasagna

Favorite non-alcoholic drink.

 Sweet iced tea

Dulcee is asleep, Vincent can give her anything she wants, even the ability to
talk to her dead father. When Uncle Jack leaves town for business, Dulcee's
dream world and reality collide. Once she is alone, the silhouette is no longer
content to remain only in her dreams. Nevertheless, Dulcee and Vincent are torn
apart when Uncle Jack returns. Spiraling into withdrawal, Dulcee experiences
the high price of loving Vincent-an addiction rivaling that of any hard-core
drug. Desperate to bridge the gap between them, Dulcee faces a crucial decision
that carries irreversible consequences.

Hello. My name’s Tenaya and I’m an addict. I mean author. When I was growing up, writing was just something I played at from time to time. I knew I wanted to be a writer, but I was one of those people who could never finish anything. When my eldest son was diagnosed with Autism, I began to write seriously. Writing became a necessity for me in the midst of my heartbreak. It was either that or take up drinking. I ‘m thankful I chose writing as my escape because I discovered it truly is my thing. I want to be swept away when I read. That’s what I want my books to do for you. The main goal of my writing is to entertain you. I want to help you escape everyday life for a little while. I hope you enjoy my stories as much as I enjoy sharing them with you!

I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful sons. I’m an advocate for Autism awareness, and women trapped in abusive relationships. I try to always look on the bright side and help others do so too. I’ve lived many places but I currently reside in Missouri. I love reading, indie and foreign films, gardening, and moody music.

  2. Great interview! I know it's difficult to get things done with two small kids - especially when one has special issues (my nephew is autistic) so Kudos to Tenaya for getting her books published. I don't read much YA but I do like the sound of Blue Aspen.
