Interview with Tanith Davenport

Welcome to my blog! Today, I have Tanith Davenport on the blog for an interview!

How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres?
My debut erotic romance novel The Hand He Dealt was published in June 2011. Since then I’ve had two erotic short stories published in anthologies and my new paranormal novella I Heard Your Voice is out on October 22nd.

Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre?
The advantage of erotic romance is that you can write in many different genres - if I feel the urge to write paranormal, vampire or contemporary I can. I would like to try literary fiction one day but am in no hurry.

Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?
A plotter, mostly. I'm used to my stories writing themselves but I have to know where I'm headed otherwise I'll just stare at the screen all day.

What is a typical writing day like for you?
I have a day job, so I have to fit my writing in the evenings. Usually I'll set myself a word limit and a time to complete it, and then put my head down and go. Then I'll reward myself with one of my favourite TV shows that my husband can't stand.

Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?
At the moment I'm reading a lot of historical fiction - Philippa Gregory is a particular favourite - and also YA dystopia. I love anything by Lauren Oliver and Ally Condie.

What is something you'd like to accomplish in your writing career next year?
I’d like to get some more shorts out and also finish the two novels I’ve been working on.

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?
I'd like to be able to stop time. Apart from anything else, it would make meeting deadlines much easier.

If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?
I've always wanted a unicorn. I don't know if that's because I have a secret hankering for the fairytale life or because I could train it to attack my enemies with its horn.

Tell us a little about your latest release.
My paranormal novella I Heard Your Voice is currently out on pre-order from Total-e-Bound. Tamar Steele is a paranormal investigator trapped in a loveless relationship with her team’s medium, Reed James. However, one night she sings to herself during a vigil and is knocked to the ground by an invisible force. Somehow she can attract spirits with her voice – and one matchmaking ghost is determined to turn her life upside down.

What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members)
My Kindle. When I’m not writing I’m glued to it.

Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?
I’d like to give it a shot. It might be interesting to combine talents with Lauren Oliver and put together an erotic dystopia.

If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them?
I’d quite like to meet Anne Bronte. She was the least recognized Bronte sister and in my view undeservedly so. I’d like to spend the day with her in Haworth and ask her what she would have gone on to write if she had lived.

What are some of your other hobbies outside of writing?
I love going to the cinema, especially to see horror movies. I also love rock concerts and live comedy. Apart from that, one of my favourite things to do is try out new restaurants - I'm the one who tries the weirdest dish on the menu just because I hate thinking "I wish I'd tried..." in the cab home.

What is a talent you wish you had, but don't?
Dancing. I used to dream about starring in musical theatre, but while I can sing and act, I can't memorise a dance routine for the life of me. I'm also the least flexible person on the planet. I can't even touch my own toes.

            Favorite color?
Purple.

Weather: Hot or cold?
Cold. I can't cope with strong heat.

Favorite place to read?
On the sofa in front of the TV.

Favorite meal
This changes all the time. Right now it's stuffed pasta shells.

Favorite non-alcoholic drink.
Coke. I don't drink coffee, so it's the one drink that keeps me going all day.

If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go?
I'd go on a cruise around Alaska. I would love to see icebergs from a cruise liner.
