Introducing Brenda Dyer!

I am so very pleased to announce Brenda Dyer, author of Love's Prophecy, is here on my blog for an interview! This is going to be so fun, and I am excited!

Brenda, welcome to Storm Goddess Book Reviews & More! I hope you're comfortable. I promise not to delve deep with questions that would invade your privacy...haha :)
Thanks for having me, Nikki. It's truly an honor.

How long have you been writing?
I've been writing since 2008. Unlike most writers, I never aspired to be a writer. In fact, I hated it in high school. I've always had a great imagination, but had a tough time getting the words from my brain down on paper.

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Let's see…okay, I love the Lord Of The Rings trilogy—both books and movies. I have LOTR's action figures all posed on my dresser—even Shelob, the giant spider. I have a huge picture of Aragorn holding a sword staring at my husband and I while we are in bed. LOL, my husband wants me to move it, but I like it where it is. I love horses and have two. We live on a hobby farm. I love chocolate and coffee. My favorite show on TV of all time is Supernatural. I love gardening. I like to play practical jokes on people. I use to make prank phone calls when I was younger, but that is basically impossible now with call display and whatnot. Oh and plus, I'm a tad more mature now…

What's a normal writing day like for you?
It all depends on what happens. But what I "try" to do is wake up at 6:30am—I like getting up before my husband and kids—have a coffee while I watch the news, check my emails, then get ready for the day. I take my youngest son to school, then come home, clean the house—and comment on blogs in between. Then I write for a couple of hours, take a break for lunch, check the goings-on on facebook, then write a bit more before I pick my son up from school. After that, I have a lot of chores to do and dinner to make so I usually don't do anymore writing unless I'm in the middle of a scene that needs to be finished right away.

Plotter or panster?
I'm a plotsner, which is a mixture of them both.

Do you have a special place where you write? A space that is yours, and yours alone? What does it look like if you do?
Yep, I have a special place. I write on my desk top, which is situated in a corner of the dining room. My computer desk is placed in front of a big window which faces out into one of my gardens. I spend a lot of time staring out that window, LOL.
Placed on my desk is my modem, a printer, phone, dictionary, a horse music box filled with pens, a Breyer horse, a horse mouse pad that I don't use anymore. A coaster, and a green felt pen that I like to click the lid off and on when I'm thinking and staring out the window, lol.

Name five books that are in your TBR (To be read pile)
Let me go check on my Kindle. Brb…Okay, I'm back. So, on my TBR list in no particular order is: Centauri Twilight, by Cynthia Woolf, Veiled, by S.B Niccum, A Journal of the Plague Year, by Daniel Defoe, The Calling, by Ashley Lynn Willis, and The Forever Girl, by Rebecca Hamilton. Plus many, many more, LOL.

Name five books on your keepers shelf that you recommend to your friends all the time.
You know what? I have many—and I mean many—books on my "keepers self" that I highly recommend to friends, but they are older books, so I'm going to go through my Kindle Keepers Shelf and recommend books I loved, written by self pubbed authors and author's published through an e-publisher. To be honest, I don't buy paper books anymore, LOL. Only e-books.
Here are a few of my recent favs: Treasure Hunter's Lady, by Allison Merritt. Bound By the Mist, by Lisa Kumar. The Progeny, by Ashlynne Laynne. Risking Eternity, by Gwenan Haines.

How did you come up with the idea of Love's Prophecy, and how long did it take you to complete the book from the very first draft up until it was ready for publication?
Hey, there are two questions in one, LOL.
I actually came up with the history behind Love's Prophecy by needing to have a plausible reason for why vampires exist and how they came to be. I also didn't want them to be evil creatures. So, I dreamed up what I feel is a totally believable reason for how and why vampires were created. I started writing LP in the summer of 2008. I finished the rough draft in late September of the same year. Then I went through many, many, many, drafts to get it where I loved it.

What are you working on now?
I'm working on book #2 in The Prophecy Series called, Prophecy's Child.

Obviously, Love's Prophecy is a paranormal. Are you, or do you ever plan on writing a book outside of the paranormal genre?
I have written and published a short story in the horror genre, called Zomboro virus. Other than that, I don't have any plans to write in a different genre—yet. That may change. I do have an idea for a contemporary, but that is far in the future.

What are some of your favorite genres and subgenres to READ?
I love to read Paranormal, Sci-fi, Fantasy, Horror, and Urban Fantasy.

Other than writing, what are some of your favorite hobbies /passtimes?
Laying on the couch, eating bonbons and watching TV. LOL…LOL…LOL. Oh man, I make myself laugh sometimes. But seriously, I love to garden—I have a huge green thumb. I like to work with my two horses…I generally love being outside.

If you could keep a mythical creature as a pet, what would it be?
A UNICORN AND A PEGASUS!

If you had a paranormal ability, what would you chose? Why?
At first I was going to say the ability to read minds, but then I realized how much that would suck because what if people were thinking mean thoughts about—like how much they hate me or something. That would be so hurtful. Yeah, I'd cry for sure. So, I would like to have magic powers. And if I did, I'd wish for a Peanut Buster Parfait from Dairy Queen.

Three absolute favorite authors?
J.R.R Tolkien, J.R.R Tolkien, and J.R.R Tolkien. Did I mention I like J.R.R Tolkien?
There are many authors I love—some from when I was young, like Walter Farley—Black Stallion Series. Judy Blume—Are You There God, It's Me, Margret and Tales Of A Fourth Grade Nothing. LOL, I still get mad when I think of that kid named Fudge eating that one kid's pet turtle.
And many, many, many favorite romance authors.

Now that your book has been out, how has your experience been? High points, low points?
First I want to say I regret nothing, but I also want to say it has been hard, but I have learned many things on this journey. Things I will definitely change next time.

What has been the biggest surprise since you've been published?
Hmmmm, I guess that people actually bought my book.

What do you hope to accomplish this year?
Have my next book written, polished and ready to be published by Christmas. Also, to make more sales on Love's Prophecy and hit #1 on Kindle Books, LOL. And I'm not kidding, lol

Now for some fun stuff:

Favorite color:
Red

Favorite food.
Chocolate anything and bacon. But not together, lol.

Favorite drink- non alcoholic
Hot drink: Coffee. Cold Drink: Milk.

Tell readers something odd about you that they may not know.
I like to vacuum. I like seeing the vacuum lines in my carpet.

What is something (other than loved ones) that you can't live without?
My vacuum—LOL, just teasing. Hmm, let's see…my make-up. I never leave home without it on.

Hot weather or cold weather?
Both. I love snow and cold, but by the end of winter, I'm sick of it and ready for summer. But by the time summer comes to an end, I'm ready for the winter.

Where's a place you'd like to visit that you've never been.
Colorado.

Do you want to tell readers anything else?
No. I'm seriously not that interesting.
Nikki, I'd like to thank you again for having me on your blog. And thank you to all who read this interview. I appreciate it so very much.

Oh, Brenda, you make me laugh!  You are so funny and down to earth. This has been a fun interview- my favorite I've done so far! :)  And, yes you are that interesting!

Love's Prophecy Blurb-   Dark warriors of might...
Mel is a vampire warrior sworn to hunt and kill demons in the dark streets of Vancouver. But he's burdened with a new assignment: find the meaning behind the Vampire Prophecy. Having no faith in the gods and their empty words, he believes there's no truth to the ancient legend until he meets Breeana, a human woman who bears the mark of the prophecy and resembles the mysterious woman haunting his dreams. When a vengeful demon spies Breeana in his arms, she is marked for death. He must take her from the world she knows until he can eliminate the threat. But the real danger is the role Breeana must play in fulfilling the prophecy and the intense feelings she brings out in him. Mel is forced to choose between his obligations to his kind, the world, and the woman he loves. Does he have the courage to let the one woman who could heal his wounded heart and soul go, or will he risk her life and bind her to him for all eternity?
Small warriors of light...
Veterinarian, Dr. Breeana Spencer yearns for love and companionship, but the disappointment of failed relationships has left her bitter. She now finds solace in romance novels. But when she meets a mysterious stranger, she's drawn to him by a connection so forceful it shatters all reason, leaving her incapable of resisting him. Yet there's more to him than smoldering good looks and a rock-hard body. As she's drawn deeper into his danger-filled world, she learns she's part of an ancient vampire legend. Breeana fears her future is no longer hers and will not include Mel. As their enemies close in, desperate to destroy them both, she must fight to convince Mel her place is at his side. A life-altering choice is before her—one that will take all her courage and love to make.

  12. Loved the interview. Vacuuming, huh??? Interesting! Here's a trick for those of you with crazy busy lives - all moms! - invest in an eyelash
curler. It makes your eyes pop. I also put vaseline on the tips of my eyelashes before I go to bed. Makes them shine! Another trick,
buy a lip gloss, my fave right now is Alba Terra Gloss in Dawn. I suspect it will look good on everybody. I leave mine in the cup holder in
the car so if I forget to put anything on, it's right there. That and an eye pencil, which I just quickly line my eyes with and I'm set!
Oh, another fun trick, when you've got 15 minutes, try this fun exfoliator - a little sugar and a little honey - slather it on and fifteen minutes later you're skin will be SO SOFT! Gotta run to get my flour Golden Retriever's some exercise...Mary Kennedy Eastham,
