Kristine Cayne- Interview and Review

Welcome back, friends and readers!  Today's guest is new author Kristine Cayne.  Kristine has a new book out titled Deadly Obsession, a romance and suspense novel. I will have a review for it later on in this post, but first we'll start off with an interview with the author!

Kristine, welcome to Storm Goddess Book Reviews! It's always a pleasure to feature authors here, especially emerging authors.

First off, tell me about yourself, and your writing.
Hi everyone! Thank you for having me here today on Storm Goddess Book Reviews & More.
My name is Kristine Cayne. I’m originally from Montréal Canada, but I now live in the US Pacific Northwest where I write sexy romantic suspense stories.

How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres?
I’ve been writing seriously for about three years. I’ve published one romantic suspense single title and one contemporary romance short story. I’m working on completing my second romantic suspense single title and a romantic suspense short story.

Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre?
I’ve considered writing paranormal romance because it’s a genre where the heroes can be more. Give a guy fur or sharp teeth and he can be as arrogant and possessive as he wants, because he and the reader knows the heroine is his mate, his destiny. It’s fantastic!  If I can come up with the right hook, I might give it a shot.

Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?
I’m definitely a plotter. I start with a general concept for the story, which leads to a high-level plot for the book’s chapters. I then visualize the first scene and start writing. From there, I plot out each scene before I write it.

What is a typical writing day like for you?
I have a full-time day-job, so writing for me is an evening and weekend endeavor. When I’m actively writing, I set daily and weekly word count goals to keep myself motivated and on plan.

Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?
I have so many favorite authors, but I’ll list the ones most pertinent to my writing: Cherry Adair, Suzanne Brockmann, JR Ward, Larissa Ione, Greg Iles, and Kathy Reichs. One of my all-time favorite books is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

What is something you'd like to accomplish in your writing career next year?
In 2012, I’d like to release books 2 and 3 of my Deadly Vices series, followed by books 4 and 5 in 2013.

If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?
I’d like to fly. I’m afraid of heights, but who cares? Can you imagine the freedom of being able to jump up in the air and go wherever you want? The thrill of seeing the world from a completely different viewpoint? Wow.

If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?

I’m allergic to anything with fur. If I could have a dog/wolf that would never challenge or scare me, wouldn’t shed, and wouldn’t make me sneeze, that’s what I’d want. And if my dog/wolf had the ability to turn into a tall, gorgeous, half-naked man? Even better!

Tell us a little about your latest release.
Deadly Obsession is the story of Nic Lamoureux, a man living what appears to be the perfect movie star life. But that perfect life is shattered by a stalker who threatens any woman close to him. When he meets photographer Lauren James, the attraction is instant—and mutual. She’s exactly the sort of woman he craves, but the stalker makes deadly clear Lauren is the competition. And the competition must be eliminated.

What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members)

I’ve become very addicted to social networking sites! I’m going to have to put myself on some sort of SNS diet if I want to have any chance of finishing all my writing projects.

Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?

If I ever co-author a book, it would be with my critique partner, Dana Delamar. Over the course of the past two years, we’ve developed a great working relationship. It might be fun to write a paranormal romance with her, especially if she wrote the heroine’s parts and I wrote the hero’s. It would be like talking with your own characters.

If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them?

I’d love to meet Shakespeare and talk about his plays. I’d ask what inspired him, and what his plans and dreams were.

What are some of your other hobbies outside of writing?

If you were on the staff to have a book adapted to movie, what would you pick?

Other than Deadly Obsession, I’d love to see a movie adaptation of Outlander series. Of course, Gerry Butler would have to play the older Jamie Fraser.

What is a talent you wish you had, but don't?

I’d love to be able to create my own book covers. Unfortunately, my photoshop skills are only slightly better than my singing abilities.

Favorite color?

Weather: Hot or cold?

Favorite place to read?
My backyard deck.

Favorite meal
Chinese fondue.

Favorite non-alcoholic drink.
Ice tea.

If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go?
I’d go to Europe and stay in all my favorite places long enough to get a feel for the people, the culture, and the language.

Deadly Obsession
Deadly Vices Book 1

When an Oscar-winning movie star meets a department-store photographer…
Movie star Nic Lamoureux appears to have a playboy’s perfect life. But it’s a part he plays, an act designed to conceal a dark secret he carries on his shoulders. His empty days and nights are a meaningless blur until he meets the woman who fulfills all his dreams. She and her son are the family he’s always wanted—if she can forgive a horrible mistake from his past.
A Hollywood dream…
Lauren James, a widowed single mother, earns barely enough money to support herself and her son. When she wins a photography contest and meets Nic, the man who stars in all her fantasies, her dreams, both professional and personal, are on the verge of becoming real. The attraction between Lauren and Nic is instant—and mutual. Their chemistry burns out of control during a photo shoot that could put Lauren on the fast track to a lucrative career.
Becomes a Hollywood nightmare
But an ill-advised kiss makes front-page news, and the lurid headlines threaten everything Nic and Lauren have hoped for. Before they know what’s happening, their relationship is further rocked by an obsessed and cunning stalker who’ll stop at nothing—not even murder—to have Nic to herself. When Nic falls for Lauren, the stalker zeroes in on her as the competition.
And the competition must be eliminated.

Lauren rolled her eyes. “Fine. Do it.”
Nic bent down and brushed his lips against hers. For the first few seconds, she didn’t kiss him back, but she didn’t push him away, either. Then, on a sigh, she leaned into him and her arms locked around his neck. His tongue darted out to taste her bottom lip. Mmm… cherry—his new favorite flavor. When her mouth opened, he didn’t hesitate.
He dove in. And drowned.
He’d meant this to be a quick kiss, only now he just couldn’t stop. His lips traced a path to her throat. Cupping her bottom with his hands, he lifted her up, grinding against her. She moaned. It was a beautiful sound, one he definitely wanted to hear again.
A loud noise pierced the fog of his lust. He raised his head from where he’d been nuzzling Lauren’s apple-scented neck to tell whoever it was to fuck off, but as the sexual haze cleared, he swallowed the words. The paparazzi had gathered around, applauding and calling out crude encouragements. Some snapped photos while others rolled film. Shit. He’d pay for this fuck-up and so would she.

Kristine Cayne Bio: Kristine Cayne is fascinated by the mysteries of human psychology—twisted secrets, deep-seated beliefs, out-of-control desires. Add in high-stakes scenarios and real-world villains, and you have a story worth writing, and reading.

The heroes and heroines of her Deadly Vices series, beginning with Deadly Obsession, are pitted against each other by their radically opposing life experiences. By overcoming their differences and finding common ground, they triumph over their enemies and find true happiness in each other’s arms.
Today she lives in the Pacific Northwest, thriving on the mix of cultures, languages, religions and ideologies. When she’s not writing, she’s people-watching, imagining entire life stories, and inventing all sorts of danger for the unsuspecting heroes and heroines who cross her path.

And now, readers, it's time for the review!

My thoughts: I simply devoured this book! It has everything that I love about a good story- believable and likable characters, fast paced and suspenseful, and great dialogue. There isn't a part of the book that lagged at all. Lauren and Nic captivated me as I read their story. The strong emotions flowed from each character and I related to both of them in many ways. Kristine Cayne has a way of keeping the reader intrigued and involved. I know I was.  I'm always interested when a story features a singer or actor/actress, and Nic was such a dynamic character. He's not just a pretty face in Hollywood, there's so much more to him than that. The author keeps the suspense up with little hints here and there about Nic's past. The way he treated Lauren with such respect and love had my heart aflutter.  I had a suspicion of who the stalker was, but still, I had no clue on how things would end. Deadly Obsession will keep readers at the edge of their seat wanting more. I am anticipating more in the Deadly Vices series, and hope that we will catch a glimpse of the stars of this book as well as new hero and heroines. Bravo, Ms. Cayne on a job well done!

I hope you enjoyed today's post, thank you for visiting. Kristine has generously offered one free e-copy of Deadly Obsession via Smashwords to one lucky commenter, so be sure and leave one for your chance to win.

Until next time,

Storm Goddess
