Q and A with author Deborah Noel

Welcome once again, to Storm Goddess Book Reviews and More. Thank you for coming for another visit. Today' you'll meet Deborah Noel, author of Tangled Blood Lines.

Welcome, Deborah!

DN: Hi Nikki!  First let me start off by saying "Thank you, for having me."

ME: First off, tell me about yourself, and your writing.

DN:   About me, well, I'm happily married ten years to a wonderful man.  I'm well over 30, though I feel about 25.  My husband and I live in Pennsylvania with our Jack Russell and own a demolition business.  My writing ~ my writing, I believe, runs through my bloodlines.  In doing my family's genealogy, I learned that many of my relatives write.  Some (from the 1800's and forward) were published while most write for themselves.  I don't particularly have a "style".  I listen to what my characters have to say and write.

ME: How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres?

DN:     I have been writing since I can remember, though I stopped writing for 15 years. BIG mistake!  I got back into writing about 5 years ago.  I have had several poems published in magazines and my first novel, "Tangled Blood Lines" was published in June 2011 in e-book format and the print version was released in October of 2011.  The genre is Science Fiction/Dark Fantasy.

ME: Do you write in multiple genres or just one? If just one, do you ever consider straying outside your genre?

DN:    I have currently focused on writing vampire stories, but do have other genres planned for the future - including a couple of children's stories.

ME: Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?

DN:   I am definitely a writer from the seat of my pants.  I jot down notes but cannot write from an outline.  I basically start with an idea, generally write the ending first and work my way to it.

ME:  What is a typical writing day like for you?

DN:    I honestly don't have a "typical" writing day.  It changes all the time.  I can write during the day, during the night and even in the wee early morning hours.  Usually when the mood hits me, I go with it until "it" or myself is exhausted.  On a good session I can crank out 2,000 words an hour.

ME: Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?

DN:    I can't say I have a favorite "who" to read.  I love what makes me feel, think, laugh, cry and what brings me to the edge of my seat wanting to know what happens next.  An author who can do make me read until my eyes burn is a favorite of mine.  I will say that when I was younger V.C. Andrews was my favorite author.  My favorite book - too many to choose from, though if I'm honest my novel is on the top of the list.

ME: What is something you'd like to accomplish in your writing career next year?

DN:   I am working on the sequel to "Tangled Blood Lines" now with a separate "novelette" due to be released in the interim that co-insides with the series.  I also would like to get the children's series underway.  I'm also working on three other book ideas I have floating around in my head.

ME: If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?

 DN:     Hmm, healing powers.

ME: If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?

DN:   I never gave it any thought.  Good question.  I really can't decide.  I wouldn't want to live with a vampire or a shape-shifter, that would get crowded and/or messy.  I'd have to say a fairy/pixie.

ME: Tell us a little about your latest release.

DN:    "Tangled Blood Lines" is a creation of crime scene investigation, old-school vampires, witches, werewolves and love.  I think it is a unique take on the whole genre.  It stretches from America to Germany and even Ireland.  The murders are brutal.  Some of the vampires are evil and beyond cruel.  I tried to incorporate a realty that people can relate to, enjoy and feel what the characters feel.

ME: What are some of your hobbies/passions outside of writing?

DN:   Four-wheeling with my husband.  Going to the beach.  Helping others with their writing.

ME: What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members)

 DN:     Paper and ink.

ME: Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?

DN:    Actually, I will be doing that.  My best friend passed away in June of 2011.  She was a writer too.  She started a novel before she was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor and before she passed away, she asked me to finish it for her.  It means the world to me to finish it for her.

ME: If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them?

DN

ME: If you were on the staff to have a book adapted to movie, what would you pick?

DN:   This is a difficult question because I don't think that movies do books justice.  I'm not saying that the movies aren't good or entertaining, it's just that books have so much more in them that movies can't include.  I wouldn't want to see a movie of a particularly good book and end up disappointed because what I feel is important wasn't included.

ME: What is a talent you wish you had, but don't?

DN:     My husband would say "driving a big truck for our demolition business", but I would have to say I would choose train be animals like tigers and panthers.

ME: Favorite color?

  DN:    Hunter Green

ME: Weather: Hot or cold?

DN:   Hot, not humid ~ though I really love snow but hate the bitter cold.

ME: Favorite place to read?

DN:   Curled up under a blanket in front of the fire.

ME: Favorite meal

DN:    Every one my husband cooks for me.

ME: Favorite non-alcoholic drink.

   DN:   Ginger ale.

ME: If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go?

DN:     Back to Ireland or Hawaii.
