Please help me welcome Marni Mann to the blog for an interview!
Tell me about yourself, and your writing.
I’m a New Englander at heart, though I now live in Florida. My husband and I have two dogs that absolutely run our lives. One sleeps on my head…the dog, not the husband. ;) My writing tends to be dark, emotional, even gritty. I enjoy tapping into topics that are difficult to discuss, but that people can relate to on some level.
How long have you been writing? How many published books do you have, and what genres?
Short stories started pouring out of me as early as middle school and eventually longer pieces were born. It took a bit of time before I found what truly inspired me.
Pulled Beneath is my fifth novel and it’s New Adult. My first two novels, Memoirs Aren’t Fairytales and Scars from a Memoir, are Literary with New Adult crossover. The second set of novels, Seductive Shadows and Seductive Secrecy, are Erotica.
Are you a plotter or do you write from the seat of your pants?
I’m a plotter. I create an outline before I start any book, although it often changes as the plot develops. It’s really just there to keep me organized and prevent writer’s block.
What is a typical writing day like for you?
I usually start my day with an hour or two of solid, uninterrupted writing. Once the rest of the world begins to wake up, I tend to get too busy with marketing and emails. There’s always a quiet lull some time in the afternoon where I can get in another thousand words. If my days are too busy, I’ll write at night.
Who do you love to read? Favorite authors, favorite books?
Literary, Erotica, and New Adult are my favorite genres to read. I can’t say I have a favorite author or book because I love so many for lots of different reasons. But I can say I’m in love with words and any writer who can wreck my emotions, make me breathless, and cause my outside world to disappear while I devour their tales.
If you could have one paranormal ability, what would it be?
Some moments pass too quickly. I’d like to be able to pause them, soak in their warmth and bliss, and hold them until I’m ready to release.
If you could keep a mythical/ paranormal creature as a pet, what would you have?
A Mountain Banshee, which are those huge flying beasts from Avatar.
Tell us a little about your latest release.
What happens when you uncover years of secrets and find out everything you thought to be true was a lie?
Drew Stevens finds her world turned upside down when her parents are brutally murdered. Soon after, she learns she inherited a property in Bar Harbor, Maine, from recently deceased grandparents that she believed had died when she was a baby.
Drew travels north to settle her grandparents' estate, but finds more questions than answers as the truth starts unraveling. What she didn't expect to find was Saint, whose reputation is as tumultuous as his past. But the very thing that brings them together is the same thing that keeps them emotionally caged.
What is something that you absolutely can't live without? (Other than family members)
My dogs and coffee.
Could you ever co author a book with someone? If so, who would you choose, and what would you write?
I’ve co-authored short stories, so I think a book would be possible and T.M. Frazier would be my first choice. We both write dark, twisted tales and I think collaborating would produce a New Adult novel that’s epic, harrowing, and extremely shadowy.
If you could spend a day with anyone from history, dead or alive, who would it be, and what would you do? What would you ask them?
My grandfather. He died several years before I was born, but he’s described as such a wonderful man. We wouldn’t have to do anything; being in his presence would be enough. I’d ask him about my family, the things he witnessed, and the tragedy he overcame.
What are some of your other hobbies outside of writing?
Traveling, reading, playing poker, cooking, baking.
If you were on the staff to have a book adapted to movie, what would you pick?
Blind Obsession by Ella Frank.
What is a talent you wish you had, but don't?
Painting/Drawing.
Favorite color?
Black.
Weather: Hot or cold?
Hot.
Favorite place to read?
On the beach.
Favorite meal
Anything Italian.
Favorite non-alcoholic drink.
Iced tea.
If you could travel anywhere and do anything, no limits or money holding you back, where would you go?
I wouldn’t limit my excursion to a single city or country. I would do a world cruise, which typically lasts about six months and covers every continent.

With Saint's scars so deep and Drew's so fresh, can the pair heal from their painful wounds or will they be pulled beneath the darkness of their pasts?

Review: When a book is full of suspense, romance, twists and turns, I know I'm in for a good read. Pulled Beneath definitely had that, and so much more. It's a tale of Drew, and when she loses everything, she finds out so much more about her life and her past. Then there's a self discovering journey. This is the first I've read of the author and I must say, I'm hooked! There are a few parts where it's a bit slow and drags, but when the action and suspense happens, it really pulled me in. Very well written story that kept me enthralled.
