Rowena Through The Wall Review

Blurb: Do you like comic time travel?Melodie CampbellMelodie Campbell
Meet Rowena Revel!

“Is that a broadsword on your belt, or are you just glad to see me?”

When Rowena falls through her classroom wall into a medieval world, she doesn’t count on being kidnapped – not once, but twice, dammit. Unwanted husbands keep piling up; not only that, she has eighteen-year-old Kendra to look out for, and a war to prevent.  Good thing she can go back through the wall when she needs to…or can she?

“Hot and Hilarious!”  Midwest Book Review
“Jack Sparrow meets Stephanie Plum”  Former editor, Distant Suns Fantasy Magazine

Warning:  This book is not a sweet romance.  It is a sexy, funny, rollicking adventure that some may find outrageous! Continues in Book 2.

My thoughts:

At first, she thinks she's dreaming. But soon, the fine line between dreams and reality are becoming a blur, and Rowena tries hard to make sense of this crazy, wild ride.

Rowena is a great heroine! I absolutely loved her, and how she handled the situation she found herself in. Rowena through the wall is laugh out loud funny, adventurous, and an all around great read!  The pacing is intense, there isn't a dull moment to be found, and I can't wait to be able to read the sequel.

This book is a wonderful blend of romance, action, drama, time-travel, fantasy....I mean, there's so much within the pages of the story that i can't name them all. Let me just say, readers, that you don't want to miss this story!

I'd like to thank the author, Melodie Campbell, for allowing me to read and review this story. You took a chance on a newbie blogger and I appreciate that.

Just a few things

I'm starting to gain a bit of interest among authors, and I'm excited for that. For reviews, I'm trying to keep them in the order they were requested in. I'm a fairly fast reader, but I also review for a few other places, so i have books to read up the yin yang. ( a phrase I stole from a friend. It amuses me for some reason)

So if you are waiting on a review, please be patient. I didn't just take your free book and you won't hear from me. It'll get up here :).

I just thought I'd put that up there since the review requests are starting to come in. I just wanted people know know what's up with it.

In some slightly off topic news- it still deals with books. I have an online bookstore.  I'm trying to attract more traffic and sales to the site.  www.nikkisbookshelf.com

Right now we're having a sale on top of the already low prices and FREE shipping.  There's an additional 10% off on purchases for the month of September. Come on over and check the site out.

There's also two facebook pages I hope you'll "Like" and check out. One that goes with this blog: www.facebook.com/pages/Storm-Goddess-Book-Reviews-More/279879308693018

and a page for the online bookstore: http://www.facebook.com/nikkisbookshelf

Okay, so I said there would be two, but if you'd like to add me as a friend on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/nikki.l.barrett

So that's all for now. Thanks for stopping by!

Until next time-

A Book I Enjoyed- Nocturne By Syrie James

A few weeks ago I was at my favorite Wal Mart store (the one with the BEST book selection I have ever seen at a Wal Mart) I came across this book. The cover caught my eye, and I picked it up. The blurb sounded interesting, so I put it in my cart. I'd never heard this author's name before, but hey, I'm always willing to try a new author.

Here's the blurb: When Nicole Whitcomb’s car runs off a Colorado mountain road during a blinding snowstorm, she is saved from death by a handsome, fascinating, and enigmatic stranger. Snowbound with him for days in his beautiful home high in the Rockies, she finds herself powerfully attracted yet mystified by him, filling her with apprehension.
Who is Michael Tyler? Why does he live alone in such a secluded spot and guard his private life so carefully? What secret—or secrets—is he hiding? With her own secrets and a past she is running from, Michael understands Nicole better than anyone she has ever known. Soon, they are falling deeply in love—a profoundly meaningful experience that is destined to change their lives forever. However, as the sexual tension between them builds, the clues mount up. When Nicole learns her host’s terrifying secret, there is nowhere for her to run but into the blizzard raging outside, and Michael may be the only one who can save her life.

My Thoughts:

I enjoyed the book. The writing is beautiful, and even though there's not always dialogue going on, the narrative is still smooth and has wonderful description. The characters of Nicole and Michael are mysterious, and I loved how little by little, I learn more about them as the story unfolds. They are inside Michael's home while a winter storm is upon them.  Absolute strangers, and Michael is a very private person, I had to know his secrets, and why he was such a hermit. He was hesitant to bring her to his home, but Michael wasn't about to let this woman die.

The story is beautiful- it's contemporary with a paranormal element. While it's a love story, I wouldn't classify this as a romance novel, but whatever the classification of this book is, I enjoyed it. When I see a book from Syrie James in the future, I will take note.

Until next time!

Book Review: Forged In Fire

Blurb: Beth Brown doesn’t believe in premonitions until she dreams a sexy stranger is gunned down during the brutal hijacking of a commercial airliner. When events in her dream start coming true, she heads to the flight’s departure gate. To her shock, she recognizes the man she’d watched die the night before.

Lieutenant Commander Zane Winters comes from a bloodline of elite warriors with psychic abilities. When Zane and two of his platoon buddies arrive at Sea-Tac Airport, he has a vision of his teammates’ corpses. Then she arrives—a leggy blonde who sets off a different kind of alarm.

As Beth teams up with Zane, they discover the hijacking is the first step in a secret cartel’s deadly global agenda and that key personnel within the FBI are compromised. To survive the forces mobilizing against them, Beth will need to open herself to a psychic connection with the sexy SEAL who claims to be her soul mate.

MY REVIEW: I absolutely love a romantic suspense blended with paranormal. Forged in Fire has just a small bit of paranormal in it. The main element in this story besides the romance is the suspense. From the first chapter, Trish McCallan stirs up the conflict and the pace, and quite frankly, it doesn't stop until the last page. There's really not a dull moment in this book. There is so much action, adventure, and fiery hot tension between Beth and Zane that you don't want to miss a minute of.  The characters are so three dimensional and they breathe life right off the pages. Seriously. I couldn't get enough of this book, and as much as I wanted to find out everything, I didn't want this thrill ride to be over.

My only pitfall was the ending. It's not a major issue, but some things are not wrapped up. From what I read on the author's website, there's another book coming, but darn it, I hate waiting! I want MORE of this NOW!!

Readers, take my advice. If you are a fan of romantic suspense, then I suggest you hightail it to your favorite ebook retailer and get yourself a copy of Forged in Fire. But let me warn you- clear your schedule, because you're not going to want to put this down.

Review: City of Champions

Blurb: Morgan Cole is a man with a dark history involving the U.S. Special Forces and covert military operations. He has returned home to the South Shore of Massachusetts to be near the only family he has left, his older brother Nathan. Working as a private investigator with a woman he truly cares for and seeing his brother on a near daily basis, he finally feels a sense of normalcy in his life that he never imagined possible.
When Nathan is suddenly found brutally murdered Morgan sets out to find the people responsible. Fasten your seat belts for a fast paced and gritty look at violence, kidnapping, murder and how one man serves up what can only be described as an outlaw style of justice.

My Thoughts:

It took me a few pages to really begin to get into the book, but once the pace quickened, I was hooked.  I will warn you- if you don't read books that are dark, gritty and sometimes violent, then this may not be the book for you.

Morgan is started to get used to life as a civilian. He's seen some things most people would never imagine. He's finally close to family, including his brother.  Things are calm- normal even. But that doesn't last very long at all....

Daniel Stanton writes a fast paced thrilling read. There are a few times where the pace is slowed because of back story, or too much narrative, but other than that, I enjoyed this suspenseful tale very much.  The characters are well crafted, the plot has twists and turns to keep the reader intrigued.....I know I was!

If you're a fan of suspense novels, I'd suggest City of Champions.

Daniel, thank you for giving me the opportunity to read your work!

I haven't disappeared!

I'm still playing around with the layout, and learning all my options.   I've gotten some interested authors requesting reviews, and am reading them in the order I was asked. So in the next week or so, there should be reviews posted, and I have a possible guest author post coming.  Thank you to everyone who has stopped by to show my page some love, and thank you for the emails showing interest. This is the start of something fun and exciting, and I'm all on board for a wild ride!

This is a short and simple post, but I just wanted to do so and let everyone know I'm still here!  Just taking some time to put things together.
